Meadows Monday

A mostly weekly news update from Elk Meadows HOA, Ridgway, Colorado
June 22, 2020
WILDFIRE SEASON IS HERE!!
Wildfire season is here and we have months of anxiety still ahead. Wildfires caused by lightning and campfires have already been too close for comfort. Elk Meadows is a tinder box. The dead Aspens are match sticks just waiting for lightening to strike them. One lightning strike could be devastating. Due to high winds it is inevitable that dead trees will fall and possibly block roads, take down power lines, damage property and or cause injury or even death.

As a community, we need to remove the dead trees before a fire starts. The good news is that Aspens make excellent firewood or fencing! The Board is asking that homeowners cut down dead Aspens on their property. Dead Aspens in the green spaces will also need to be removed. We are asking for volunteers with chainsaws to help their neighbors who are not here or do not have chainsaws. In return, the wood could go to whomever cuts it down.

We will organize a list of neighbors who want their trees taken down and volunteers with chainsaws who will help remove the dead trees. This is a win win for all of Elk Meadows.
We can work together to remove these unsightly trees, mitigate a potential fire hazard, and provide firewood or fencing to our community. Please contact the EMBOD at  emhoa.secretary@gmail.com  to participate.

Below is a form to waive the liability of the property owners for accidents or injury. Participants who are removing trees must sign this waiver.
INTERNET
Imagine Fiber Internet in Elk Meadows! Well, it could be a reality! Please read the following information and register!   http://clearnetworx.com/ridgway/

ANNUAL MEETING PACKET
Everyone should have received their notice of the annual meeting with their proxy. Please be sure to update your contact information so we can update the EM directory.
Please be sure to study yours as the meeting this year will be virtual. (How to connect into the meeting will be provided.) And use the Contact Information page to update what we have on record for you, and the EMHOA directory, if you would choose to be part of that.
BOARD MEMBER OPENINGS
We still have openings for Board members! Our community needs your help and ideas. Please consider volunteering for the Board or other committees. Contact  emhoa.secretary@gmail.com
MAMA DOES
There are one or two rogue does in the neighborhood! They are defending their territory and young so be wary. They have been aggressive with dogs so it would be safer to keep them on a leash. They have been seen on Aspenglow and Forest Hill, but they could be anywhere so keep an eye out for four legged mad mamas with large ears.
FRONT PORCH PHOTO PROJECT!
Our neighbor, Deidra Krois, has a wonderful idea for a project during this unique and challenging time in history! She wants to create a photo documentary of other neighbors in our community who are self-isolating. With your permission, Deidra would stop by your home and take photos of you, your family, and or your pets, on your front porch or driveway, from six feet of course. She will also ask for a signed release to use your photo in MM, EM Archives or on the website. You will also receive your photo from Deidra. If you have any comments about how you are spending your time in quarantine you may share that as well. You may choose to comment anonymously. This is a voluntary project and if you wish to participate, please contact Deidra at deidrakrois@gmail.com .
WEED, WEEDS, and MORE WEEDS
Pest Away will be spraying weeds on June 30, per county requirements to keep noxious weeds under control. Individual homeowners are asked to do the same on their property. Identify the noxious weeds here. https://ouraycountyco.gov/155/Weed-Control
THANK YOU!!
A huge shout out to Tim and Belinda Chisolm and Kimberley Stagg for walking the fence line on Saturday June 20! We are all grateful for your bush whacking, climbing mountains, cutting up dead trees, and repairing damaged fences. Thank you to all the homeowners who inspected the fence on their property and repaired them. It made the job much easier. EM is required to maintain the fence on the perimeter which is inspected each spring.
COVID-19 CORONAVIRUS
TODAY'S UPDATE
A s of today  the state of Colorado's death toll is 1647. There now have been a total of 30,349 confirmed cases of the virus in Colorado. A total of 1403 cases have been confirmed within the last 7 days which is an increase of 307 cases from the prior week. A total of 280,033 people have been tested. https://covid19.colorado.gov/data/case-data
Gov. Jared Polis released a statement yesterday... “ Coloradans have done a great job wearing masks when leaving the house, staying physically distant from others, and washing our hands but we are only a few short steps ahead of the virus and we need to do better. The data is now starting to show a reversal of some of our gains, the 3-day moving average for cases is now going up in our state,” said Polis. “This emergency extension helps Colorado further support our response efforts and remain prepared in the face of this global pandemic. I encourage all Coloradans to stay vigilant and we will get through this together .”

Here is a quick video from the Surgeon General on how to make a simple mask.

Please remember to wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; washing every finger thoroughly as well as top and bottom your your hands.

Also, PLEASE check on your neighbors. If they are ill make sure they are getting the help they need. A simple phone call or a bag of groceries dropped at their doorstep is a huge help for many people at this time.
Please remember social distancing....it is working.
It is our only chance at containing this dreaded disease!!
STAY SAFE AND STAY WELL!!
