Helping Students Get to College - and Stay There
San Jose State University, CA
|
Fewer than 20 percent of students entering San Jose State in 2014 finished in four years-less than half the national average. To tackle these problems, California is trying creative solutions. Among other initiatives, the state this year has invested heavily in helping community college students transfer to four-year schools; spent $50 million on campus food banks and other programs to combat student hunger and homelessness; opened an online community college to serve students who are working; and boosted state grants for students with children.

ITGA Outreach 2020: DePaul's Julie Emms to Lead
|
Director of Community Relations at DePaul University Julie Emms will serve as chair of ITGA's Outreach Committee in 2020. Outreach was launched in 2019, and has served as a steady resource and producer for internal/external needs, including development of a new video, brochure and intern program, and providing leadership with time-sensitive writing and editing needs. Julie's campus-community engagement in the greater Chicago area is impressive on many fronts, and she has presented at several national conferences, including ITGA, Society of College and University Planners, and City Age: LA. "I am excited to lead this committee," says Julie, "and work with ITGA's leaders and members to raise the visibility of the organization, and bring it to the forefront of those working in our industry."
