What do you like most about UC San Diego?
All of the many research opportunities. There is so much interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary work happening right here on campus it will make your head spin! For example, I'm in an Ethnic Studies PhD program, which is a social science, but I get paid to work in a biomedical informatics (STEM) lab because they need my expertise - very cool.
What advice do you have for incoming students?
Find your community, your people on campus. Find the people (mentors, professors, Resource Center Directors and employees) that will support you and your goals and cheer for you when you need it. With loving and supportive folks behind you and all the resources that the University provides, you can and will succeed.
What ways did you get involved on campus?
As an undergrad, I was a member of the Native American Student Alliance. As a grad student, I'm a member of our American Indian Graduate Student Association. I'm always trying to advocate for our Native community on campus and in order to have a greater impact, I joined the graduate student government in 2017 and am this year's Vice President of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.
