What We've Been Up To...
VC Becky Petitt (EDI) and VCSA Alysson Satterlund (Student Affairs) visit to the ITRC.
Vice Chancellor, Becky Petitt, and Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, Alysson Satterlund, came to visit the ITRC and the community of Native American students and staff. They had a great discussion about Native American life on campus.

Looking forward to having more discussions like this to improve the relationships between the UC San Diego Administration and the Native American community on campus!
Native Doc-4-A-Day
The UC San Diego School of Medicine, Association of Native American Medical Students (ANAMS), and the Intertribal Resource Center brought students from All Tribes Charter School to UC San Diego to learn about the importance of higher education and exposed them to the possibility of pursuing a career in medicine. Activities included a student panel of existing UCSD Native American students.
UCSD 9th Annual Powwow
This year NASA, the ITRC, and AIGSA came together to form the UC San Diego Powwow Committee. Out of the combined efforts of these Native American groups came a successful 9th annual powwow!

The weather was kind enough to let us stay out for the entire day (with the exception of a little bit of cold). It was great to see community here at UC San Diego with their friends and families. And it's always great to see our returning students!

Thank you to everyone who helped to plan the powwow, who participated in the powwow, and who came out to take part and enjoy! We couldn't have done it without everyone's efforts and support.
Powwow 101 Workshop
In our second Powwow 101 Workshop attendees were able to see a showcase of different dancing styles that were gong to be seen at the 9th Annual Powwow! Richard DeCrane emceed the event and introduced the different dancers along with their dancing styles. UCSD's powwow princesses Taylor Begay and Raena Lasley as well as their families demonstrated their dance styles.

This was also gave the dancers and some of the head staff a chance to meet the organizers of this year's powwow before the event. We want to thank Muir College and the Graduate Student Association for their partnership in sponsoring and hosting this event.
Family Night & Powwow After-Party
The ITRC hosted it's 5th monthly Family Night! This past month attendees played the hilarious game "Cards for Decolonization" and debriefed on the 9th Annual Powwow.
ITRC Language/Culture Table
We held our first two Language Table programs with great success! The first language table was on Luiseño counting and vocabulary. The second was learning about Native American sign language.

Want to share a greeting or some basic vocabulary in your Native language - or want to learn someone else's? Can you teach a cultural activity - or want to learn a new one? Do you have a traditional social song, dance or game from your tribe that you could share?

Then check out the upcoming Intertribal Language & Culture Table coming to the ITRC. Details coming soon. Check the  calendar  on our website or visit us on Facebook for more information.
Midterm Refuel
Midterms can be a stressful and draining time for any student. That's why we like to provide food, drinks, and a place to study for all of our students here at the ITRC.
Rez Beats
Students, youth, and community members took part of an evening of self-expression and community at Rez Beats, an open mic night at UC San Diego.

The evening was sponsored by Native Connections, Indian Health Council, Inc., Muir College at UC San Diego, and the UC San Diego Intertribal Resource Center.
Kumeyaay Mural: VIP Reception
We are so happy to have been invited to meet Johnny Bear Contreras! It is amazing to have such a talented artist to provide a beautiful art piece of Native representation on campus.

Can’t wait to see the unveiling of the new MUIRal right outside of Pines on June 6th!
