ITRC and Australian Workshop

- Working Together on PFAS - 

ITRC is excited to announce a training partnership with the Australian Land & Groundwater Association (ALGA). The first workshop will be ITRC and ALGA - Working Together on PFAS, November 14th from 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm EST.* The workshop will be via Zoom for U.S. participants and in-person/hybrid in Australia. 


Three US speakers and three Australian speakers will be asked pre-supplied questions relating to:

  • The regulatory environment in their country
  • Remediation technologies
  • Fluorine-free aqueous film-forming foams.

At the end of the workshop, there will be a question and answer session. For more information on the presenters, see below!

Bill DiGuiseppi

Bill DiGuiseppi is an expert in the history, occurrence, and remediation of 1,4-dioxane and PFAS, having assessed these emerging contaminants at 100’s of sites and over 30 years of experience. Bill frequently conducts 1,4-dioxane and PFAS training for a variety of groups, including the Interstate Technology and Regulatory Council (ITRC), US EPA, US DOD, US DOE, and the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME). Bill has been actively engaged with the ITRC PFAS Team, as the treatment technologies writing subgroup co-lead, content trainer, and roundtable panelist. His enthusiastic support of ITRC earned him the 2018 Industry Member of the Year award. Bill is also an adjunct faculty member in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at the Colorado School of Mines.

Kristi Herzer

Environmental Analyst and Techincal Program Lead

Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation

Kristi Herzer is an Environmental Analyst and Technical Program Lead for the State of Vermont’s Department of Environmental Conservation. Kristi is a project manager in the Brownfields Program and the Sites Management Section and promotes the Vermont Brownfields Reuse and Environmental Liability Limitation Act (BRELLA) program. Kristi is the Division representative on VTDEC’s Environmental Justice Team, an active member in a cross-agency PFAS workgroup, and co-author of multiple internal and external guidance documents for the regulated community. Since 2017, Kristi has served as a member and subgroup leader for the Sampling and Analysis section of ITRC’s PFAS team, and most recently also serves as a subgroup leader of the PFAS Training team.

Dr. John Hunt

Senior Techincal Adviser

Dr. Hunt has 30 years of experience in contaminated land assessment and remediation. Over that time Dr. Hunt has worked for a wide range of clients including federal, state, and local government, and multinational and local companies on a variety of contaminated land projects, including hydrocarbon sites, gasworks, chemical manufacturing sites, munitions manufacturing sites, radiological sites, PFAS sites, boatyards, landfills, infrastructure sites, and brownfield and greenfield areas. Dr. Hunt’s special contribution to the field of remediation has been in the area of problem definition where site assessment meets remediation design. He has worked on the development of remediation designs at the interface between science and engineering, for several large and complex remediation projects in Australia and internationally. He also has an interest and expertise in remediation sustainability.

Andrew Mitchell

Andrew is an environmental engineer with a master’s in public policy and over 25 years of experience in contaminated land including with the 2000 Olympics, the EPA, and the Defence PFAS program. His diverse experience has helped him to understand the different perspectives and drivers of regulators, land managers, industry, and consultants. He currently leads the NSW environment business in ADE Consulting Group.


Shalene Thomas

Shalene Thomas has more than 20 years of experience in environmental consulting, which includes 14 years of experience supporting per- and polyfluoroalkyl substance (PFAS) evaluations. She has supported State, Federal, and industrial clients with PFAS evaluations, risk management, and mitigation strategies. She serves as WSP’s PFAS Work Group Lead and has supported PFAS projects in 32 different states in 9 of the 10 USEPA regions as well as in Europe, Australia, and Canada. She currently serves as an AFFF leader for the ITRC PFAS Team as well as a Planning Board member for the NFPA AFFF Fire Road Map project. She has provided PFAS and AFFF training across North America and has presented on the topic of PFAS and AFFF across the US, Canada, and Australia.
