Join us Saturday, Oct. 10 from 6–10 pm for the 13th annual Día de los Muertos Fiesta and the grand opening of Sendero de las Almas Luminosas (Path of the Luminous Souls), a new experience featuring a path of altars illuminating spaces throughout the Museum.
Enjoy a ceremonial blessing by Maquilli Tonatiuh Aztec Dancers, performances by Mariachi Bonitas de Dinorah Klingler, Las Hijas de Maria and Ballet Folklorico, sugar skull workshops (advance registration required), and hands-on activities & crafts. Explore the vibrant Mercado de los Muertos, plus food and drinks for sale by local favorite Mayahuel.

Uncover the century-long pattern of recruitment and deportation of Mexican laborers in Help Wanted / Leave Now: ‘Operation Wetback’ & the Revolving Door of Mass Deportation.
Developed with guidance from an advisory committee including Dolores Huerta and anchored in the 1950s deportation campaign “Operation Wetback,” this landmark bilingual exhibition explores how generations of Mexican workers were recruited to sustain U.S. industry, only to face mass expulsion during times of economic anxiety and political scapegoating.

| "Reflecting on the Land" Opens August 21
Centering the voices of California’s Indigenous peoples, “Reflecting on the Land” challenges visitors to reckon with the stories that have shaped our understanding of this land. From the landscapes of 250 years ago to hard-won victories like the restoration of the Klamath River, the exhibit traces the living legacy of more than 200 tribes across the state and looks ahead to radical, hopeful visions of what sovereignty and self-determination can look like on this land. "Reflecting on the Land" is a temporary display, on view in the Museum lobby from August 21 through October 4, 2026. | | |

Steve Sasaki, an expert docent at the Museum, would love to share his knowledge with you! Join him in “Uprooted: An American Story” to hear about his family’s experiences of incarceration during World War II. Steve offers a Q&A as you pass through, or a full guided exhibit tour on topics such as coming to America, life in the incarceration camps and returning home after WWII. Learn more here.
