A Note from our Executive Director
Dear friend,
It is my great pleasure to welcome you to Isla Vista Youth Project’s newly conceived e-newsletter. Each month, I will share information about the children and families we serve in Goleta, Isla Vista and beyond. We will also highlight a staff member in our Staff Spotlight section and share program information, news and upcoming events.
There is a quote I love, and think about often. “There are two gifts we should give our children. One is roots. The other is wings.” I began my tenure as Executive Director of Isla Vista Youth Projects in February. I am so grateful to my predecessor Luann Miller for the deep roots she established for this organization. Luann has been a passionate promoter of children and families for more than 30 years. I am incredibly blessed to follow her at IVYP and to benefit from her superb reputation and the reputation of this organization.
Quietly and with little fanfare, IVYP has spread its wings. Our Children’s Center serves babies and preschoolers from Goleta and Santa Barbara – and even a few from Lompoc and Carpinteria. Our Family Resource Center supports families throughout Goleta and Santa Barbara. And our school-aged program, which is housed at Isla Vista Elementary School serves mostly children who live in Goleta.
Isla Vista Youth Projects has a point of view. We believe that when children receive interactive, developmentally appropriate, high quality care, and parents have the resources and skills they need, we build a strong, successful, vibrant community. I look forward to sharing our roots and our wings with you in the coming months.
