Ladies,

We continue the celebration of the 35th anniversary of the founding of IWC. That our organization has thrived for so many years is a testament to the dedication of our leaders and support of loyal members. Many of our favorite events are in the works: Spring Opening Party, Spring Coffees, International Women’s Day, International Food Festival, a Gourmet Group lunch, the Cuisine Team’s luncheon, etc. We will need your assistance to plan these special events. As is the case each year, we will have vacancies on our Board for the 2024-2025 year. My final term will end May 24. Although I enjoy the “job” , I look forward to passing the torch to a new president with fresh ideas. We must evolve to meet the needs of our members, i.e., change with the times. Several Board members have served an additional year as a personal favor to me, but they, too, are eager to pursue their own interests. You must decide how important IWC is to you; if we do not have a full slate of officers, we will cease to exist. We will notify you of the vacancies in January or February.

International Women’s Day – Our annual program to reflect on the accomplishments of women from every part of the world is scheduled for Thursday, March 7. If you are interested in speaking and sharing the triumphs of a woman and/or legislation that inspires you, please get in touch with me at your earliest convenience. As always, we will conclude the program with a luncheon with the delicious foods our members prepare.

Closures – If we must close IWC due to inclement weather, we will notify members via Facebook and email by 7:00am, so please check your email and our Facebook page. If any of the following school districts close or have delayed openings, we will close: Red Clay Consolidated, Brandywine, Christina, Colonial, Kennett Consolidated, Unionville-Chadds Ford, Avon Grove, Garnet Valley.

Spring Coffees – We have three (3) coffees confirmed and will send detailed information:

Coffee and Craft hosted by Akemi Geary,

Coffee hosted by Aniko Czobor, and

Coffee hosted by Maria Agriodimas and Maria Rafalski

Asha,

Your President

Bringing Back Coffee

Enjoy coffee when you drop by IWC for events and classes! We will provide both caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee and hot water for tea at the kitchen window counter.

BYOC - As part of our initiative to be more supportive to the environment, please remember to bring your own cup!

Welcome Desk

Ladies,

Please sign up for the Welcome Desk via the Sign-Up Genius app. We will use only this on-line volunteer form and not the paper form, as it caused some confusion when both were instituted in prior years.

Volunteering twice a year for the Welcome Desk is part of our IWC membership requirement. It involves coming in early on either a Wednesday or Thursday to assist a board member with setting up (involves making coffees, hot water, setting out treats, paperwork in community room and welcome desk), and closing up at noon.

Above all, you get to be the welcoming friendly face for returning and new members at the Welcome Desk. You will get to meet other members that you otherwise would not normally meet! Remember how nice it was to be greeted warmly on your first visit.

PLEASE SIGN UP

Contact Carol at cgrafferty@hotmail.com if you have any questions or concerns.

As always, we are staying close to home in January. We have booked a private guided tour for our group at the DE Art Museum:

The work of Pre-Raphaelite painter Dante Gabriel Rossetti; his wife, artist Elizabeth Siddal; and his siblings writers Christina and William Michael Rossetti are the subject of this major international exhibition, organized in partnership with the Tate Britain (Museum) in London, UK. This unique exhibition marks the first time that major early and late Rossetti paintings will be presented and displayed in the United States, among contextualized masterpieces from the Tate’s collection. Pieces from public and private collections, as well as watercolors, drawings, photographs and major drawings by Siddal, are also included.

It was on view at the Tate Britain from April to September 2023, before traveling to the DE Art Museum.

Lunch will be at the museum café immediately after the tour. The museum café is offering us a choice of boxed lunches. If you’d like to join us, please check the sign-up sheet for the lunch and include your check.

Plan to see some of the highlights of the regular DE Art Museum collection after lunch, plus visit the museum gift shop.
