1988 - 2023

Ladies,

Glad to share all our activities and news with you.

New Classes and Activities - Patty Pfeifer, Class Coordinator, has brought new and innovative classes and activities to our members this year: Carpe Vinum, English Country Dancing, and a travel-themed class offering helpful tips and the opportunity to share travel experiences. Please give them a try! If you wish to offer a class or activity on a “pop-up” basis, please contact Patty.

Holiday Party - The 2023-24 Holiday Party is set for Saturday, December 9. Look for details in an upcoming Special Communication. Once the signup sheet is available, you will want to submit your payment as quickly as you can, since last year’s party “sold out” in less than three weeks!

Deadline for Renewing Membership - You must renew your membership by Sunday, October 15, for inclusion in the 2023-24 directory. You will no longer receive the Weekly Updates and Esperanto after that date if you are not a member. Please do so ASAP, as many exciting events for members are in the works: Birthday Club for August-October, Peruvian luncheon, Coffees, Andalusia Mansion, Carpe Vinum, etc. Thank you.

Arts and Crafts Sale - The highly anticipated Annual Arts and Crafts Sale, featuring art, jewelry, crafts, etc., made by our talented members, is scheduled for Thursday, November 16.

Peruvian Luncheon - Our Cuisine Group cochairs Katharine Kerrane and Terri Morrin are finalizing the arrangements for the November 6 Peruvian Luncheon. The signup sheet, along with the menu, is in the Main Hall.

Gourmet Group - The first Gourmet Group Luncheon of the year is Friday, November 17. Brigitte Gauthier has selected Portuguese food for the theme. Join us to prepare easy, delicious meals and to learn about the culinary traditions of Portugal.

New Members - We are pleased to welcome our newest members: Jane Luke, Debbie Olafsson, Line Farr, Parvathi Nanjappa and Karen Smith.

Thank you for your support!

Asha,

Your President

AFTER 5

Wednesday, October 4

5:00 - 7:00 pm

at Red Fire Grill & Steakhouse

400 Lantana Dr,

Hockessin, DE 19707

With the opening of the new year at the IWC, it is time to rejoin our friends for our After 5 gatherings.

After 5 was created as an alternative to the morning coffee meetings, for women who work or who are not able to attend morning activities. Our After 5 gatherings have become another opportunity for all members to gather for fun, food, and drinks at local restaurants. The whole point of our girls' night out is to relax with your friends, let your worries go, and have a fun-filled evening with the VIP women in your life.

This year, we will meet the second Wednesday of every month from 5-7. This is a change, so be sure to check your calendars. It is important that the organizers know who will be attending ahead of time, to assure that we have seats for everyone.

If you are interested in participating, please send an email to one of the After-5 coordinators,

Debbie Cimorosi (dcimorosi2015@gmail.com) or Patty Pfeifer (mpar1985@gmail.com), so that they can include you on the After-5 emailing list. And be sure to tell them when you are going to be attending each month, so we have seats reserved for everyone.

TOURS

Friday, October 13, 2023.

Come with us to

the Andalusia Historic House, Gardens & Arboretum

on the Delaware River

Departure: 9 am from the the parking lot in front of the Giant supermarket at “Shoppes of Dilworthtown Crossing”

Address: 1393 Dilworthtown Rd., West Chester, PA 19382

Return: ca. 3.30 pm

Cost: Mansion & Gardens $30.- plus $9.- for gasoline & tolls for your driver;

Deadline for sign-up: October 8, 2023

We are scheduled for a private guided tour of the mansion at 10.30am; afterwards the spectacular formal gardens await us.

Lunch will be nearby in Bensalem. You are also welcome to have a picnic on the grounds of Andalusia, but you’d have to organize your entire car to participate in it and let us know ahead of time.

The sight of the Andalusia “Big House”, from the property’s ‘River Walk’ has welcomed visitors for almost 240 years: Since 1980, the general public has been able to share in its history, thanks to the generosity of the Biddle family who still owns the estate. Built in 1794, expanded in 1811 and again in 1834-36, it is surrounded on three sides by massive Doric columns. Today, it is one of the earliest and most pristine examples of the Greek Revival Style in the country.
