See our Board Members and Volunteers

Hi, Ladies,

Welcome to the 2023-2024 year for IWC, the 35th anniversary of our founding. Our board members, instructors and leaders have many exciting plans underway for the upcoming year! 2022-2023 was a bittersweet year for IWC. We lost four (4) longtime members, including our second President Signy Carson. Signy, Christine Waisanen, Susan Cruz Szczarba and Lili Dadmarz were remarkable women who never hesitated to lend a helping hand whenever they could. We will miss them, but are very grateful we crossed paths.

One of the highlights of the year was the fact that we welcomed approximately 30 new members. The best news of all is that we resumed the IWC “way of life” after the uncertain years of the pandemic. We are back, better than ever, with new classes and activities.

We are pleased to welcome the newest members to IWC! Tatyana Hladki, Lucy McLamb, Nancy Barbato, Connie Clarke, Shelley Robyn and Meri Green.

IWC Anniversary

Happy 35th Birthday to us! In the Fall of 1988, three remarkable women, Judy Clay, Veronica Eid and Diana Leitch, reminisced about their experiences living abroad while their husbands were working for Dupont. They were able to navigate the cultural and linguistic differences at a time when the world was a much more accessible place. Our cofounders did not want newcomers to the Wilmington area to feel alone, looking for ways to make the hours pass each day. IWC started in private homes with seasonal celebrations to introduce these ladies to American holidays, traditions, and way of life. As we begin to observe this incredible milestone, let us not forget our cofounders. Judy Clay is living elsewhere; Veronica Eid continues to serve as a Board Member and attends our events when her busy schedule permits. Sadly, Diana Leitch passed away in 2014, but still has many friends with fond memories of her. Our cofounders are responsible for bringing together hundreds of women who might otherwise not have met and have enabled them to form close, enduring friendships. Thank you, Diana, Judy and Veronica!

After 5

Wednesday, Sept 13

5:00 - 7:00 pm

at Buckley's Tavern

5812 Kennett Pike, Wilmington, DE

With the opening of the new year at the IWC, it is time to rejoin our friends for our After 5 gatherings.

After 5 was created as an alternative to the morning coffee meetings, for women who work or who are not able to attend morning activities. Our After 5 gatherings have become another opportunity for all members to gather for fun, food, and drinks at local restaurants. The whole point of our girls' night out is to relax with your friends, let your worries go, and have a fun-filled evening with the VIP women in your life.

This year, we will meet the second Wednesday of every month from 5-7. This is a change, so be sure to check your calendars. It is important that the organizers know who will be attending ahead of time, to assure that we have seats for everyone.

If you are interested in participating, please send an email to one of the After-5 coordinators,

Debbie Cimorosi ([email protected]) or Patty Pfeifer ([email protected]), so that they can include you on the After-5 emailing list. And be sure to tell them when you are going to be attending each month, so we have seats reserved for everyone.

Welcome Desk Volunteers

Welcome Back to IWC! Please sign up for the Welcome Desk via the Sign-Up Genius app. We will use only this on-line volunteer form and not the paper form, as it caused some confusion when both were instituted in prior years.

Volunteering twice a year for the Welcome Desk is part of our IWC membership requirement. It involves coming in early on either a Wednesday or Thursday to assist a board member with setting up (making coffees, hot water, setting out treats, paperwork in the community room and Welcome Desk) and closing up at noon.

Above all, you get to be the welcoming friendly face for returning and new members at the Welcome Desk. You will get to meet other members that you otherwise would not normally meet!

Remember how nice it was to be greeted warmly on your first visit. Please sign up.

Contact Carol at [email protected] if you have any questions or concerns.

New Classes for 2023-2024

English Country Dance

Do you like lively music and adding some movement into your day?  Want to try some traditional dancing with social interaction at its heart. We have current members with experience in English Country Dancing who have generously agreed to teach us about English Country Dancing while leading us through a variety of dances.  English Country Dancing is a social activity, enjoyed by communities throughout this country and abroad. Please join us to learn the simple figures and patterns, all readily accessible. You will interact with others as the movements flow smoothly, always to lovely music matched to the dance movements.

Wear comfy flat shoes and expect to have fun.   Wednesdays 10:30-12:00.

Now Boarding: Travel Topics, Trends, Tricks, and Ideas

Join this interactive class led by Aniko Czobor CTC for those of us with a love to travel. Are you excited about knowing upcoming travel trends, interested in learning about the different styles of travel and all the latest and greatest travel hacks you can incorporate in your own travels? Learn how to prepare for and handle the unexpected, how to choose your travel style and destination, even how to snag the best seats on an airplane and the most suitable cabins on a cruise ship. Suggestions for topics are welcome, and of course the best part is to share travel experiences with each other.

The class will be held on the first and third Wednesdays of each month at 9:00 am.  Including members who have traveled to different destinations will provide more personal stories and recommendations, together with Aniko’s vast knowledge of specific travel recommendations.

If you would be willing to share your travel experiences, contact Aniko about participating in her classes. [email protected]

We all love to hear about our well-traveled members’ experiences, so please share!

Wednesday 9:00-10:00, 1st and 3rd weeks of the month.
