Want more information about the Apprenticeship Education Tax Credit? Click here. or Email: [email protected]

Employers are allowed a tax credit for certain educational expenses associated with qualifying apprentices. Qualified educational expenses include tuition, book fees, and lab fees. The credit is up to $3,500 per apprentice and an additional $1,500 if (1) the apprentice resides in an underserved area or (2) the employer's principal place of business is located in an underserved area. The total tax credits may not exceed $5 million annually.

USDOL-Illinois Office of Apprenticeship

Did you know that apprenticeships in Illinois are registered by the U.S. Department of Labor's Illinois Office of Apprenticeship? Illinois is one of 25 Office of Apprenticeship (OA) States in which all registered apprenticeship program registration and oversight is done by federal U.S. Department of Labor staff through state field offices. Long-time OA-Illinois Director Kimberly Jones retires this month. Stay tuned for news about a new OA-Illinois Director in 2022. What is the IWIB Apprenticeship Illinois Committee?

The Apprenticeship Illinois Committee is one of 4 content-focused committees of the Illinois Workforce Innovation Board or IWIB and provides leadership on:

Expanding apprenticeships geographically and to new industries.
Increasing diversity, equity, and inclusion in apprenticeships.
Formalizing apprenticeship coordination across partnering state agencies.
Growing statewide capacity to provide apprenticeship opportunities to job seekers and businesses.

The Committee has public quarterly meetings and has work groups on Marketing, Youth Apprenticeships, Pre-Apprenticeships, and Apprenticeship Systems (on hiatus).
