As the Founder + CEO of Valve+Meter Performance Marketing, Marcia Barnes knows a thing or two about leading and serving. This woman of influence has made a career out of reinventing herself and helping others become the best version of themselves. Born as a farmer's daughter in southeast Indiana, Marcia learned many life lessons on the family farm. "I discovered that ability, combined with a strong work ethic, has transferred to my business and personal life," quips Marcia. "These lessons helped me move from occasional states of brokenness, poverty and debt to health, confidence and success. This year's IWL conference is focused on how we can unite the power of the many who show up, speak up and stand tall to advance the inclusion conversation in our companies, our homes and in our communities.
Stories will be shared from the stage that generate real conversation among all attendees to facilitate learning around common gender biases in the workplace and how to overcome them.

Want to Join the IWL Male Ally Advisory Group?
IWL is accelerating the advancement of women,
and men are a part of our "how."
This summer we're launching a Male Ally Advisory Group, and we're kicking it off in the "What Male Allies Need" breakout session at the IWL Conference. It's understandable that in today's changing landscape and especially post-#MeToo, it may be challenging to identify where and how you can best participate and show up in support of women. To help, IWL is building a community of like-minded men, the IWL Male Ally Advisory Group, to support one another as we all work together to support female talent.
Regardless of where you are at on your own allyship journey, you have something to offer others. You have something to learn from others. Two IWL Board members will lead this session though attendees will be doing most of the talking.

Last month, we challenged you to "celebrate the victories" and practice sharing your accomplishments, like Sheri Riley taught us at the 2019 Louisville conference in late April. This month, as summer comes to a close, kids go back to school, and we're headed into the 10th Annual IWL Indianapolis Conference, we're focusing on
Setting Intentions. Sometimes the reality of life is that we have to take one day, and one moment, at a time - just focusing on the task immediately in front of us. However, what good does it do to get into your car and start driving if you don't know where you're going?
Heading into this next month, we challenge you to set an intention for each day. Different from goal-setting, intention-setting does not require you to plan out your path to the desired outcome. It's a manifestation for how you will live out that day. Examples could be "I intend to lead by example," or "I intend to forgive others and myself." Practice repeating your intention a couple of times in the morning as you start your day, and see how this affects your mindset. Setting intentions is a great way to own how you choose to live each day, and to ground yourself as you head into this next season.
Thank you to our 2019 Conference Sponsors... and there's still an opportunity to join!
