University Programs & News

We are celebrating a decade of preparing music therapists to excel in a growing field. The Bachelor of Music Therapy degree started in 2014 and has graduated over 50 students who are serving as music therapists across the United States. Music Therapy is an evidenced-based profession that uses music as a therapeutic tool to work on non-musical goals in cognition, motor, social, emotional, and communication domains. Music Therapy Program Director Dr. Rebecca Barnard believes that IWU has been an excellent place for this thriving major. “Music Therapy provides a way that students can use the talents that God has given them to make an impact on so many lives. This program is a wonderful fit within the mission of the university, and I have loved watching our students thrive in a Christian atmosphere. The University and the community have played such a vital role in making this major a success and we are so grateful.”
