Village of Whitefish Bay Official Weekly Newsletter
Message from the
Village President, Julie Siegel

It’s that time of year again; it’s getting cold outside. The Police Department is seeing a number of cars unattended running in driveways. We ask that you do not leave your keys in an unattended, unlocked, and running vehicle. To subscribe to our newsletter, click here.

The Milwaukee Winter Club (MWC) and the Village of Whitefish Bay are just weeks away from opening the Community Rink at Cahill Park. Construction on the rink is nearing conclusion. Overnight Winter Parking Reminder:
New alternate side winter overnight winter parking has started:

What does that mean? Between 3:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. vehicles should park on the even-numbered side of the street with an even calendar date before midnight, and on the odd-numbered side of the street on those nights with an odd calendar date before midnight (unless an exemption applies). Check out the example of Kent Avenue for more information.

Other things to remember:
  • An overnight Monthly Parking Permit or a request for Free Nightly Parking Permission (25 total nights per year) is still required to park on the street. Purchase a permit or request free permission here: https://parking.wfbvillage.org/
  • You must park in front of or across the street from your home depending on the date.
  • Vehicles must be moved once every 24 hours.

Winter parking changes were made to improve Village-wide snow plowing efforts, increase the limited number and distribution of parking spots in designated zones, and improve public safety.  If you have any questions about the changes, please contact Lt. Patrick Whitaker with the Whitefish Bay Police Department at p.whitaker@wfbvillage.org.

NSHD Highlights 12/1/20: World AIDS Day:

World AIDS Day is a time for remembrance and renewed commitment to end the HIV epidemic. It is an opportunity for communities and people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, to show support for people living with HIV, and to commemorate people who have died.

The year 2020 marks 40 years since the first cases of AIDS were reported in the United States, an epidemic that has led to nearly 700,000 U.S. lives lost and still no cure four decades later. Today, the HIV epidemic continues to grow:
  • Globally, over 38 million people are living with HIV, including over 36 million adults and approximately 1.8 million children.
  • Nearly 1.1 million people in the US are living with HIV and 1 in 7 people do not know they are infected.
  • Approximately 7,900 people are living with HIV in Wisconsin, including over 6,740 individuals reported with HIV and presumed to be aware, as well as 1,100 individuals who are estimated to be unaware that they have HIV.

There are many resources available today to prevent the transmission of HIV: Prevention | HIV Basics | HIV/AIDS | CDC. Let’s Stop HIV Together Campaign - Information on testing, prevention, treatment & more: Home | Let's Stop HIV Together | CDC. Wisconsin HIV Program: Wisconsin HIV Program | Wisconsin Department of Health Services
