Idaho GOP considers platform enforcement, presidential primary options

Idaho Republican Party state central committee members will consider a controversial platform enforcement mechanism this week, as well as a constitutional amendment idea that would effectively neuter an anticipated ballot initiative.

Idaho Supreme Court rejects firearm ban appeal

The Idaho Supreme Court ruled this week that private entities may ban guns during private events on leased government property. In the unanimous decision, Justice John Stegner wrote the Second Amendment and Article I, section 11 of the Idaho Constitution apply only to government entities, and not private parties who may wish to restrict firearms at their events or venues.

Lawsuit on whether Medicaid should pay for transgender care moves forward

The plaintiffs in the case are transgender women who both submitted requests to the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare seeking genital reconstruction surgeries to treat gender dysphoria, as recommended by their physicians. The department denied both requests under Medicaid, saying neither plaintiff’s procedures were medically necessary.

University of Idaho Research Capturing Nutrients

Daniel Strawn, professor of environmental soil chemistry at the University of Idaho, joins Logan Finney to discuss research using biochar to capture nutrients from wastewater and distribute them back into the soil. They discuss a paper he recently published in collaboration with the Canadian Light Source that showed how the biochar and minerals interacted, allowing them to refine the process.

Another $76 million in opioid settlement for Idaho

Under the $17.3 billion multistate agreement, Allergan is required to stop selling opioids for the next ten years and Teva is required to stop opioid marketing and ensure systems are in place to prevent drug misuse. CVS and Walgreens have agreed to monitor, report, and share data about suspicious activity related to opioid prescriptions.
