ISU Bengal Dancer, Miss Idaho Heads to Miss America Contest

What was once considered just a beauty pageant, Miss America is now a competitive contest featuring the nation’s most talented, educated, and involved. 


Madi Andreason, a senior at ISU and Bengal Dancer, plans to graduate in 2025 with bachelor's degrees in political science and paralegal studies, and was crowned Miss Idaho in June this year. She’ll head to Florida for the Miss America pageant at the end of December, with the final competition taking place January 5, 2025. For those hoping to cheer on Andreason and Idaho in the contest, look for more information on YouTube as the event draws near.

Professor Balances Helicopter Paramedic Work, Teaching, and Family Life

Dallen Farmer, an ISU professor, has been a helicopter paramedic at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center since 2011. In October, he began teaching paramedic courses at ISU. Recently, he also added "graduate" to his list of accomplishments, having completed his Homeland Security Emergency Management (HSEM) degree in just 18 months. As a helicopter paramedic, Farmer spends two full 24-hour shifts on call each week, which allows him the flexibility to teach and attend classes.

Cybersecurity Instructor Receives Award from Colloquium for Information Systems Security Education

Sean McBride's work "What does an OT [operational technology] security professional need to know?" was honored as the 28th Colloquium's best paper. During the past seven years, McBride has developed ISU's Industrial Cybersecurity Engineering Technology program - the country's first hands-on degree to prepare cybersecurity professionals to defend the electric grid, gas pipelines, and water systems from cybersecurity incidents.

To submit a campus update or story for Idaho State Today, fill out the online form by Friday at noon for Monday's edition, and Wednesday at noon for Thursday's edition. A separate newsletter called ROAR Weekly is sent to students on Wednesdays.
