25th Emmaus Walk

25th Emmaus Talk!

Eleanor Roosevelt of the United States, the first lady who served the longest said, "To handle yourself, use your head; to handle others, use your heart." She served as the first lady from 1933 to 1945. Her husband, Franklin D. Roosevelt, served four terms as president. Maybe that's why he served for four years as one of the greatest presidents of all time.

Someone who can think with their head and bring heart into it to execute policies and laws is a leader. No matter what the decision is for any leader, in the end, if the heart is missing in their decision, it will not be the best for anyone.

Often, people ask me if I am a conservative or a liberal. I always respond that I am conservative for myself and liberal for others. That means that I will strive to live the values of the Gospel as best as possible, and I will respect you for your freedom to interpret and live your life based on the values of the Scriptures you believe in. I will not impose my beliefs on anyone, but I will always teach them as I see it, with freedom for you to choose the best. I will respect and value such freedom. Because, in the end, every single human being is God's child.

There is not a place in the Scripture that says, thou shall not love thy neighbor! There is not a place in the Scripture that says, thou shall not welcome the stranger. Nowhere does it say we need to control, intimidate, or belittle someone. Scripture is very clear about how one should live but does not say how others should live. If all of us lived the Scriptures personally, there is no reason to thump the bible on someone else!

So, as we approach the election, choose your heart. Kindness and love towards other human beings is the way to go. A person who can help us be good human beings is the person who is our leader.

Monthly Prayer

Oh God of love and compassion, we are approaching a double transition this year as a church and nation. In November, we will elect new leaders to guide our nation. Be with us as we make our choice on who should lead us into the next phase of our nation. We ask your blessings upon our Presiding Bishop Michael Curry as he leaves office in the capable hands of Presiding Bishop-Elect Sean Rowe. May we be guided by wisdom in our choices and may our actions be guided by love and compassion. Amen.

Presiding Bishop Elect Sean Rowe

Episcopal Church Presiding Bishop-elect Sean Rowe, together with the planning committees for his transition and installation, announced today that they will forego the traditional installation service in Washington National Cathedral in favor of a smaller, simpler ceremony in the chapel at the church’s New York headquarters.

This service will be livestreamed...

Minda Cox: Keynote Presenter 57th Diocesan Convention

Learn More about her on YouTube

I have known Ms. Cox for over eight years. She is an amazing person with gifts that I am envious of but grateful for. Here below is what she says about herself.

"My name is Minda Cox. I’m an ordinary, energetic, and engaged Episcopalian living in

Bolivar, MO. I was born in India without arms or legs and adopted as a toddler. My Mother is a retired Episcopal priest, and I’m the youngest of 5 adopted sisters. Some of my loves include traveling, spending time with friends and family, and enjoying autumn weather. I’m a watercolorist, speaker, and writer; all of these are ideal gifts for this happy introvert. As an introvert, I’m content to lose myself in a black-and-white pencil drawing or a watercolor painting. What makes me excited?? Reflecting on scripture, the situations of the world around me, encouraging others with my paintings, teaching watercolor classes, advocating for accessibility for the disabled, and knitting together words to create something that may open the love of God to others."

Lay the Floor: You've heard of raising the roof- but what about laying the floors?! Paradise Point Camp had asbestos abatement completed in the Bishop Foote Recreation Hall with unexpected consequences. The Foote Recreation Hall is now asbestos free... and has no floor. Your donations today will assist Paradise Point Camp in getting a sub-floor installed before camp is closed for winter and install new durable flooring before campers arrive. Many thanks to the team at Pacific Technologies and Abatement Pro for the excellent work and generous discount on abatement. Donations to "lay the floor" can be made online at ParadisePointCamp.org at any time.

Join the Franciscan Community

Is God calling you to practice Franciscan Spirituality, where you love God, love your people, love the world, care for creation, and be an example by living simply? St. Francis of Assisi is still relevant in our world because he transcended the trappings of the world around him. Maybe you and I can live the same way, without the rigorous lifestyle of Francis, but by the simple, intentional, and prayerful lives we lead today in our context.

Perhaps you need prayerful support in your life. Perhaps you have gifts God is calling you to share. Perhaps you feel called to work on behalf of the poor and marginalized. Perhaps God is leading you to follow the little poor man of Assisi so that your love for God and creation may grow. Anyone is welcome to join: men, women, lay, clergy, married, single, young and old, to join as Companions in a diverse Franciscan family.

I invite you to become a Companion of The Society of Saint Francis, an international religious community of men and women within the Anglican Communion inspired by the 13th-century mystic Saint Francis of Assisi. Click and register to learn more and join the International group, The Third Order of the Society of St. Francis companions.

'A Case for Love' on Streaming Platforms

Tuesday, October 1

‘A Case for Love’ to be released Oct. 1 on streaming platforms “A Case for Love,” a feature-length documentary inspired by Presiding Bishop Michael Curry’s message of love, will be released Oct. 1 on all cable, satellite, and digital platforms where films can be rented or purchased.

Produced by Episcopalian-led Grace-Based Films, “A Case for Love” premiered in theaters on Jan. 23. Two free screenings were offered during the 81st General Convention in Louisville, Kentucky, this summer.

The film includes interviews with Curry and other public figures. Well-timed for this election season, “A Case for Love” also features individual stories on the importance of acting out of love for one another instead of indifference, hate, and ignorance.
