We welcome Rebecca Jansen to the team. Rebecca has a ton of knowledge and has the Ideal Protein Program and has new ideas, tips and tricks to offer. With the addition of Rebecca and the soon return of Tianna from maternity leave it means we have 2 or more staff on during our peak hours now to provide YOU with better service, MORE attention and NEW ideas! Of course Trista Davis and Jordyn Wideman are still here and Tianna Wideman gave birth to a beautiful baby girl on December 16 so she will be back with us in the late spring season on a very part time basis!

The Facebook group has been revamped! If you are not friends with Trista Davis on Facebook already send her a friend request and then she can add you into the group. Trista posts different recipes and articles periodically and dieters can share ideas in there as well.

Getting Back on the Wagon! 
Choosing your HARD!

Losing weight is one of the hardest things that you will ever do, but being overweight is also hard, being sick from being overweight is also hard. Like some of you I myself have been living with a weight problem for most of my life and have decided that I can not let my weight control my life anymore. My weight is making me miserable and sick and it is something that I can change so it is completely crazy not to change it!! Right?! 

I am sure that you have heard that saying, doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result is the definition of insanity! Well that is me, round and round in circles and its time for a change, a real change for the better. Eating to live not living to eat and choosing to eat a healthy diet because I LOVE myself, not because I hate myself. I promise, it is always easier to eat the good food from a place of love rather then from a place of hate and punishment, this thinking has really helped me over the last few weeks. Anyways enough about me let's get back to CHOOSING YOUR HARD. 

Here are some of the "HARD" things with the Ideal Protein diet and what to do about them!

EATING SOOOO MANY VEGETABLES!!

1. Try new vegetables and new ways to prepare them. Ever tried Jicama? It is amazing and something that has a really different texture and flavor then anything else that is "allowed" on the diet. What about Fennel? This is another great option that you have probably never tried. I know for me I often don't try new things for fear of them not tasting great and then not having anything else ready for when I am hungry. Here is the solution, have a back up veggie ready or make 2 veggies that meal and make sure that there is enough of the veggie you know you like in case you don't like the new option(but I think you will).

2. Blend those suckers up and drink them with your shake or have them as a soup. adding a handful of spinach to a chocolate drink or a mango yogurt drink can get you a cup or 2 of your required vegetable right there!  

Check out this awesome BLENDED Cauliflower Soup Recipe
  • 1 T olive oil
  • 1 tsp of onion powder
  • 2-3 cloves garlic, peeled and minced
  • ¼ t ground turmeric
  • 1 t peeled, diced ginger root
  • 1 turnip, peeled and chopped 
  • ½ head of cauliflower, chopped
  • 1 medium zucchini, chopped
  • 1 red pepper chopped
  • 2 stalks of celery, chopped
  • salt and pepper, to taste
  • juice of one lemon (about 2 T)
  • 4 c vegetable and/or chicken broth
  • ¼-1/2t cayenne pepper

  • In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
  • Saute the onion powder, garlic, ginger, and turmeric for 3 minutes.
  • Add the remaining veggies, and salt and pepper, and saute for several minutes longer.
  • Pour in the lemon juice, and stir to coat the vegetables.
  • Add the broth, cayenne and additional salt and pepper, if desired bring to a boil, cover and boil for 10-15 minutes, or until the veggies are soft.
  • Use an immersion blender, or add the contents of the pot to a blender of food processor (in portions, if needed, based on the size of your blender), puree until smooth and creamy.
  • Return the soup to the pot, and heat through.

HAVING A SOCIAL LIFE!

Having a social life on the diet is actually quite easy, it is really all about your attitude and planning ahead of time!! I recommend always checking the menu before you go out to dinner and decide on what you are having before you get there. Or send the menu to us and we will give you some different options to choose from.  

Also to for go drinking just say that you are trying to stay away from anything but water for now because you are trying to figure some things out with your digestion, this isn't a lie and it usually has people leave it alone when you start talking about "digestion"

DRINKING ALL THE WATER 

For some people drinking 2L of water per day may seem like a daunting task. There are a few things you can do to help get all the water in!

1. Lemons, Limes, Mint, Cucumber, the list goes on, add these things to your water to give it a new and exciting flavour.

2. Herbal Tea COUNTS as water! Buy yourself some new and exciting tea's from David's Tea or one of the many locally owned tea shops in Edmonton. There are so many different flavor combinations now and you can drink them hot, cold or iced!!! My favorite is Tazo Passion Tea.

3. Try one of the great water enhancers complete with electrolytes from Ideal Protein! Ask for a sample next time you are in, we would gladly let you try one! 

Also try this Great Electrolyte Drink Recipe!

LEMON LIME ELECTROLYTE TONIC
 
1/2 Cup Lime juice, squeezed 
1/2 Cup Lemon juice, squeezed 
4 Cup Water, depending on how strong you want the flavor 
1/4 Tbsp Sea salt
 4 Tbsp Sugar substitute
 
DIRECTIONS
Whisk all ingredients together until the sweetener is fully dissolved. Chill in the refrigerator for a few hours
 
Ready to Serve!

The reason so many sports drinks promote that they help boost electrolytes is because these minerals play important roles in muscle function and the amount of water in your body. Supper Recipe~!

CHICKEN SPAGHETTI RECIPE
 
1/4 Tsp Grape seed oil
7 Oz Chicken, cubed 
1/2 Cup Bell peppers, diced 
1 Garlic clove, minced 
1 Cup Zucchini, julienned 
1 Tsp Basil, chopped 
1/2 Cup Tomato coulis
  • Before you begin, you will want to prepare zucchini noodles and a tomato coulis.
  • To start this chicken and zucchini recipe, take a non-stick pan and place it over medium heat.
  • Add grape seed oil to the pan and let it heat.
  • When your oil is hot, add your chicken to prepare it for the vegetables and zucchini noodles. 
  • Once your chicken has seared, add your sliced bell peppers and garlic.
  • Right before your chicken is ready, add your zucchini spaghetti to the pan and let everything cook until your zucchini is soft.
  • While your zucchini spaghetti and chicken is cooking, take your plate and coat the bottom with tomato coulis. 
  • Place your chicken and zucchini spaghetti over the plate of tomato coulis.
  • Sprinkle the basil over the top of your dish.
Ready to serve!
