Hump "Week" in Tallahassee

The Florida Legislature is rounding the corner and heading home with less than four weeks of the session remaining. The FAFP continues to monitor and attempt to influence over a dozen bills that would negatively impact the practice of family medicine in Florida (e.g., scope of practice expansion, lessening vaccine mandates, etc.) while maintaining positive momentum for medical loan repayment, administrative simplification bills, GME funding, and more . Family Medicine was present once again with FAFP Past President Dr. Christy Cavanagh along with resident Dr. Steven Paul serving as Doctor of the Day with sponsorship by Senator Johnathan Martin, on February 12.

ECG Interpretation in HS Athletes

The new requirement of ECG screenings for high school athletes will begin with the 2026 school year. The FAFP is developing educational content and resources to prepare Florida Family Physicians for conducting screenings in their practices and communities. An excellent start in preparing for this new requirement is a complimentary webinar "ECG Interpretation in Athletes" scheduled for Wednesday, February 25 from 6-7:30pm featuring family physician Dr. Jonathan Drezner, an expert in sports cardiology. Stay tuned for more educational programming and resources that the FAFP is developing for members in the coming weeks and months. Any questions in the meantime, please contact Jay Millson (jmillson@fafp.org).
