is proud to be among the more than 150 community partners encouraging Coloradans to prevent child abuse in Colorado through the CO4Kids Campaign. Join parents, professionals and child advocates on
April 2nd
to make strengthening families a priority in Colorado by attending the Child Abuse Prevention Month Day at the Capitol.
The organization that recruits the most attendees will receive a
$5,000 grant
from the Colorado Department of Human Services.

Illuminate Colorado's executive director
Jade Woodard
was honored by the Kempe Foundation with the 2019 Kempe Professional Award.
Jade was recognized for her career dedicated to our community's children, and for her vision, achievement, and extraordinary commitment to changing the reality for children in Colorado. The Kempe Foundation acknowledged Jade's selflessness and single focus on what is best for children and families, as well as her ability to bring people together to work toward effective solutions.

Illuminate is pleased to announce
available funding
to provide trainings
in
Nurturing Healthy Sexual
Development
and
Darkness to Light, Stewards of Children.
Funding can be used to provide child care, food, materials for the training and a stipend for the trainer. Both trainings are available from authorized facilitators across the state, in English and Spanish. For more information on the trainings visit

A comprehensive approach to preventing child sexual abuse ensures adults interacting with children possess the basic knowledge and skills to foster healthy sexual growth and development in children. Adults also need the proper tools to prevent, recognize and respond to child sexual abuse.

Are you interested in learning more about issues related to substance use, or the opioid crisis?
Illuminate is currently conducting two ECHO series, through the Child Welfare Training System, which take a deeper look through weekly one-hour sessions conducted online.
The first series, In-Depth with Substance Use and Families
, explores a breadth of topics ranging from distinguishing fact from myth when it comes to understanding drug screens and tests, how to advocate for the right level of treatment and ensuring parental capacity at the various decision points in a child welfare case. You’ll leave the series connected with experts in the field—and your peers—and you’ll feel more confident engaging with families when substance use is involved.
The second series (coming very soon!), The Opioid Crisis: What Caseworkers Need to Know
, explores topics ranging from the history of opioids in the US, opioid use disorders, best practices in the treatment of opioid use disorders, neonatal abstinence syndrome, and more. Not only will you hear from subject matter experts, but you’ll also discuss challenging cases and build solutions with your peers.

Illuminate Colorado welcomes Katie Facchinello as Director of Communications.
|
This newly created position within Illuminate Colorado will oversee communication aspects of organization events, programs, awareness initiatives, community norms campaigns and much more to help build brighter childhoods in Colorado!
Facchinello comes to the organization with more than twelve years of experience in marketing, communications and public relations working in the private, nonprofit, and government sectors. Prior to joining Illuminate Colorado, Facchinello was the communications manager for the Colorado Department of Human Services Office of Children, Youth and Families where she oversaw the Office communications strategy, the development of the Colorado Child Abuse and Neglect Public Awareness Campaign, as well as efforts to recruit and retain foster and adoptive parents.

Acts of Kindness Breakfast Inspires Others to Give
|
More than one hundred friends joined Illuminate Colorado early this month at the Acts of Kindness Breakfast to raise awareness and funds to support building brighter childhoods in Colorado.
Attendees had the opportunity to hear from Denver District Attorney Beth McCann, as well as a panel of experts talk about the work being done at Illuminate Colorado to support parents struggling with addiction. The event raised over $6,500 to support this important work.

CSU Chapter of Kappa Delta Helps to Prevent Child Abuse in Colorado
Thank you to the CSU Chapter of Kappa Delta for welcoming more than 300 CSU students into their house at the annual Shamrock & Roll event to raise awareness on campus for prevention by selling #pinwheelsforprevention.
Special thanks to the Mayor of Fort Collins Wade Troxell, pictured, for joining us in thanking the CSU Chapter of Kappa Delta for putting on yet another great event for Colorado kids this month!
