Want to join the movement to build brighter childhoods for children across Colorado? 

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time to acknowledge the importance of families and communities working together to prevent child abuse, and promote the well-being of children and families.  Below are a few easy ways to get involved:

Pinwheels for Prevention® Campaign

Pinwheels for Prevention   is a national awareness campaign that puts a new  spin  on  prevention. This positive campaign allows pinwheels to highlight efforts and chang e the way we  think about prevention.  By recognizing  children as  the building blocks for our communities and economic development, we ensure thei r healthy development

Participate by planting your own pinwheel garden, get creative with informational pinwheel bouquets, integrate pinwheels into other events, or come up with an idea of your own!

Panel on Child Abuse Prevention at the Colorado Children's Caucus,  April 3rd, from 
12pm to 1:15pm @ Colorado State Capitol
Join us for the Colorado Children's Caucus! The Colorado Children's Caucus provides a forum for all members of the Colorado General Assembly to discuss the challenges facing Colorado youth and work together to develop policy recommendations to strengthen families and improve the lives of children.  Read more.

Child Abuse Prevention Month Kickoff & Rally,  April 4th from 11am to 12pm @ Colorado State Capitol
Join us on April 4th as child advocates from across Colorado will come together to kick off Child Abuse Prevention Month. At the event, we will celebrate the proclamation of April as Child Abuse Prevention Month, and featured speakers will highlight the importance of supporting families and preventing child maltreatment. Wear blue to show your commitment to preventing child abuse! Read more. 

National Wear Blue Day, April 7th, all day @  everywhere!
Show your support for preventing child abuse and building brighter childhoods across the U.S. by wearing blue in recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month. Don't worry, you don't need to pull out your blue onesie in order to participate (though you can if you'd like) -- any blue item will do! Don't forget to post pictures on social media using the hashtags #WearBlueCO #greatchildhoods #CAPMonth #CO4Kids #CAPinCO

Colorado Rockies Game for Child Abuse Prevention Month, 
Opening Weekend - Sunday, April 9th starting at 1:10pm @ Coors Field
Join us in showing how much Colorado values our children with a day of fun, family, Pinwheels, and cheering on the Colorado Rockies! A portion of each ticket sold will further efforts in Colorado to prevent child maltreatment and build brighter childhoods.  Read more & purchase tickets. 
Illuminate Colorado is Seeking Expert Consultants

Do you have expertise in issues that may affect child maltreatment? Are you interested in consulting on complicated child abuse and neglect cases? If so, an opportunity with CANES may be right for you.

The Child Abuse and Neglect Expert Staffing (CANES) program at Illuminate Colorado utilizes a multidisciplinary team of experts to engage in critical thinking surrounding the dynamics and concerns at play in complex and challenging child abuse and/or neglect cases.The  CANES program will facilitate the consultations to organize and analyze available information. By utilizing a diverse team of experts,  CANES works to ensure that questions are being asked that inspire solution-focused critical thinking and enhance creativity in managing child welfare cases.

Meet Our New Team Members!
Ginger Harris, Communications & Development Coordinator

Ginger joined Illuminate Colorado in February as our new Communications & Development Coordinator. Ginger comes to Illuminate following a year as an AmeriCorps VISTA, where she focused primarily on nonprofit resource development. Prior to her VISTA-ship, Ginger dabbled in marketing and copywriting in fields ranging from construction to publishing.  She is passionate about community-building and is looking forward to helping Illuminate Colorado build brighter childhoods! 
Jerry Frangas, Training & Outreach Coordinator

Jerry, a former child welfare caseworker for both Denver and Douglas County, comes to us with years of nonprofit, training and public speaking experience. He also spent eight years in the Colorado Legislature where he served as Vice Chairs of Health and Human Services, Finance, and Transportation and Energy Committees in the House of Representatives. Jerry is married to Gregoria Tovanche Frangas and has three grown children, two of whom are in college and one who is serving in the U.S. Marines.
