GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (Thursday, April 13, 2023)
The 2023 Thoroughbred racing season at Lone Star Park got underway with the $75,000 Bluebonnet Stakes for Texas-bred fillies and mares contested at 6 1/2 furlongs on the main track.
The original field of eight had three defections, leaving a field of five veteran runners for the first stakes of the meet.
Ima Discreet Lady (Discreet Cat - Ima Three Blinger by Too Much Bling) with David Cabrera aboard, sat within 1/2 length of the leaders before drawing away at the top of the stretch and winning by an eight length margin. The seven-year-old gray mare owned by Raymond Todd White and Duane Coker and trained by Karl Broberg covered the distance in 1:18.69.
David Cabrera felt confident in the irons, stating "I had a lot of horse, all the way." after the big win.
Ima Discreet Lady paid $4.60 to win as the second wagering choice.
Attendance for the opening night card was 4,889 with $257,232 wagered by the on-track patrons. Racing will resume on Friday, April 14 at 6:35 p.m.
