"Thoughts on Easter"
Does it feel like it's been a while since we celebrated Easter? In 2020, the world was on shutdown due to the global pandemic when Easter rolled around last April 21. This year, we get to celebrate Easter in person (see article below), although here in 2021, the date falls two weeks earlier on Sunday, April 4. It started me thinking about the dates of Easter, so I did a little research that I wanted to share with you.

Easter is generally set as the first Sunday after the full moon that occurs after the vernal equinox (think the beginning of spring). The precise date of Easter -- when Jesus was resurrected from the tomb -- is not known. In 325, the First Council of Nicaea convened by the Roman Emperor Constantine decided that Easter would be celebrated on the same Sunday throughout the church. At that time, the world used the Julian calendar put in place by Julius Caesar. The council constructed special tables to compute the date so that Easter could be determined indefinitely in advance.

Then, in 1582, Pope Gregory XIII completed a reconstruction of the Julian calendar -- and produced new Easter tabulations. By the 1700s, most of western Europe had adopted the Gregorian calendar -- and today, of course, it is the standard international calendar for civil use. Many Eastern Orthodox churches, however, still determine Easter based on the Julian calendar (one major difference being the leap year rule). So in some Eastern churches, Easter can be celebrated as late as May.
So, in the Western Church, what is the earliest Easter can occur? That would be on March 22, which has not happened since 1818 and won't happen again until 2285 -- so most of us won't see that one. But I recall that in 2008, Easter fell on March 23. The last time Easter fell on its latest possible date, April 25, was in 1945, and it won't happen again until 2038 -- some of our Imagine Kids may be on the Leadership Team by that time.

So we will gather in just a few days to celebrate Easter on Sunday, April 4. Next year it will be on April 17, and in 2023, Easter will fall on April 9. It will be early again in 2024 when we celebrate Easter on March 31, and then much later in 2025 when Easter will be observed on April 20. So, mark your calendars!

In the name of the One who can do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine,
Bruce Jones, Pastor and Co-Creator,
Imagine Church of the Carolinas
Easter Worship at Imagine Church
It's the Day of days, the culmination of our worship all year long, and it proclaims the central reality of the Christian faith. It's Easter! It will be our joy to celebrate the resurrection when Imagine Church gathers at 10:15 a.m. this Sunday, April 4, and you're invited to be with us in person or online. In addition to stirring music, a powerful message, and hearing the Easter story, we do several things at Imagine to help make the day memorable. Please make note of the following information about Easter 2021 at Imagine Church:
Worship will be in the chapel at Gordon-Conwell as well as online on the Imagine Church Facebook Page. Conditions on the new church site are not yet dry enough for outdoor worship as the ground is too soft. We have found our indoor environment to be safe as more and more people return to in-person worship.

Come a few minutes early to help "bloom the cross". If you're worshiping in person, we will have fresh-cut flowers in the rotunda as you arrive so that you can insert them into a large cross that will be moved into the chapel during the opening songs as a reminder of the joy of Easter.
The Easter Egg Hunt for Imagine Kids will take place right after morning worship. Gregory and his team will have everything ready as our Imagine Nation Youth will have hidden the eggs earlier in the morning. All boys and girls are invited to participate!

Build a Resurrection Garden! We invite families who have pre-registered to stick around after the Easter Egg Hunt to build their own Resurrection Garden with supplies that will be provided -- it should only take a few minutes to create. You might want to bring a blanket to sit on outdoors as you build your garden.

Light refreshments will be offered after worship. To encourage you to stay and visit with one another, boxed refreshments will follow worship so you can visit with each other outdoors on what promises to be a beautiful Easter morning.
Note that Easter Worship will be Indoors at GCTS and Online
The Leadership Team decided last Sunday evening that conditions on the new Lake Wylie church site are simply not conducive to outdoor worship quite yet; the ground remains too soft on which to park multiple vehicles. So, worship on Easter Sunday will be indoors in the beautiful Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary chapel and online on the Imagine Church Facebook Page. For Easter, we feel it is safe to remove the barriers from alternating rows as long as all worshipers continue to wear masks. Refreshments following worship on Easter will be individually boxed, too.
Maundy Thursday Worship Online Tonight at 7:00 p.m.
You are invited to make preparation for Easter Sunday by sharing in an online Maundy Thursday service of worship on the Imagine Church Facebook Page tonight at 7:00 p.m.  We will share in communion at home (with whatever elements you decide to use) and Bruce will offer a dramatic message. Please worship with us online this evening.
Imagine Kids
This past Sunday, with the help of Lilly and Elijah, Gregory wrapped up his message series about Joseph with his message titled 'Joseph Forgives His Brothers'. You can catch Gregory's pre-recorded weekly messages on Sundays at 9:45 a.m. This Easter Sunday, Gregory will share a brief message about Jesus' empty tomb -- you won't want to miss it!

When you worship in person at Gordon-Conwell, elementary aged Imagine Kids (grades K-5) are dismissed from the chapel early in worship for their session with Gregory, so we invite you to spread the love and share the fun by bringing a friend with you to Imagine Kids, too!
We're So EGG-cited to Spend Easter Sunday, April 4, with Your Family!

IMAGINE KIDS, we hope YOU will stick around after Easter Sunday worship for an Easter Egg Hunt! This event is open to Imagine Kids of all ages, so don't forget to bring your Easter basket with you!

You are also invited to stick around after worship on Easter Sunday to participate in a fun family craft — build a Resurrection Garden! If you haven't already done so, please RSVP to Gregory via email (ImagineKids@ImagineChurchNow.org) or phone/text (704-502-3107) so we can purchase the right amount of supplies. And don’t forget to bring a blanket with you to sit on while you do the craft outdoors.
Memory Verse:
Parents, here is the memory verse for you to practice with your child(ren):

"When they entered the tomb, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus."
- Luke 24:3

The faithful love of the LORD never ends! His mercies never cease. – Lamentations 3:2

Sometimes, it’s hard to comprehend God’s love for us. We often let the circumstances in our life determine how loved we feel. However, God’s love for us never ends. It’s not dependent on circumstances being good or bad. It’s not determined by how good we are. God’s love for us started long, long ago. His love for us doesn’t change with time or with circumstances.

So today, if you’ve gone through a tough season in your life that’s caused you to question God’s love for you, know this: God loves you. Nothing changes that. Nothing can stop that.

So today, choose to believe that love. Choose to walk in that love. Let God’s love, not your circumstances, determine your worth. Walk free today knowing you’re loved and that love never ends.

Ladies' Life Group
The Ladies' Life Group, led by Debra Tadlock, is continuing to meet on Tuesday nights at 7:00 p.m. at Gordon-Conwell in Room 127. Their 5-week Bible study on the book of James will conclude this coming Tuesday, April 6. This book, written by the brother of Jesus, is a powerful book providing explicit direction on how we are expected to live our lives as Christians. You are invited to join and delve deeper into His Word. And, since precautions are being taken to ensure a safe setting, you are invited to bring a friend, too!

Home-Based Life Groups

The Greater Community Life Group is meeting again in 2021 every two weeks on Wednesday evenings. The ladies are reading Max Lucado's You Are Never Alone with facilitation provided by Michelle Transou. For more information about the group's next series, contact Michelle at 704-299-6235.
Give Cheerfully in the Name of Our Risen Savior
As we prepare to give back to God this Easter Sunday, may we do so knowing well within our hearts that light will always wash away darkness and life will always defeat death! May we give cheerfully in the name of our risen Savior knowing that our monetary gifts are a mere gesture of sacrifice in comparison to Jesus’ ultimate sacrifice for us.

If you are led to make an offering and will be worshiping with us in person this Easter Sunday, we invite you to place your offering in one of the collection baskets at the GCTS chapel.

Additionally, we offer these safe and convenient means of giving:

  • ONLINE on our NEW Church Center giving platform:

  • Via APP from your smart phone using the NEW mobile Church Center app:

(Simply search for Imagine Church in Lake Wylie to create your account.)

  • Via TEXT from your cell phone: Simply text your offering amount (ex: $123) to 84321, and you will be prompted for any other needed information.

Of course, cash or check can always be mailed directly to our church office at:

Imagine Church
13000 S. Tryon Street, Suite F-114
Charlotte, NC 28278

No matter how you choose to give, donations received through these convenient options will help us sustain our programs this Easter and throughout the year. Thank you for all you do to support our mission here in our local community and around the world.
Be the Hands and Feet of Jesus
There are so many opportunities that exist for our church to be the hands and feet of Jesus by helping others through various means of service right here in our community and around the world. If you have a heart for missions, you are invited to join the Missions Team or simply support its initiatives. For more information about the Missions Team, please email Kari DiDonato at her Imagine Church email: imaginechurch2014@gmail.com
Imagine Church will conduct its first ever SERVE DAY on Saturday, April 17. SERVE DAY is an opportunity for you to roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty by serving our community in two different capacities:

Clover Area Assistance Center (CAAC):
Headed up by Fred Wetherell, we need 10 people (middle- and high-school aged youth and/or adults) to do outdoor work like cutting back bushes, planting flowers, picking up trash, etc.

Palmetto Women's Center:
Headed up by Debra Tadlock, we need 10 people (middle- and high-school aged youth and/or adults) to assist with constructing a prayer garden (bench, painted rocks, bird houses, etc.) using supplies and materials that will have been previously purchased and prepared.

Adults and Youth (middle-schoolers and high-schoolers) who are interested in signing up to help on SERVE DAY should use this link: SERVE DAY Sign-Up

Plan to meet at the First Properties location (1 Executive Ct, Lake Wylie) at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 17, where breakfast will be provided.

Thank you for your willingness to do something deeply meaningful for others in our local community!

Prayers and Praises

Jerry Brownlee, father of Lydia Smith, has been experiencing a series of heart-related issues which has required some hospitalization. Lydia has spent a number of days in Winston-Salem caring for her dad, and we pray for them as well.

We express Christian sympathy to Kendall and Amy Davis and family and to Kendall's parents, Hank and Diane Davis, at the death of Kendall's uncle and Diane's brother-in-law, Bobby Miles, in Irmo, South Carolina, on March 27, 2021. May God sustain them with His presence and comfort them in this loss.
