Imagine Church Devotional
"Heading Out into the Deep Water"
One of my favorite passages in all of Scripture is found in Luke 5:1-11. The disciples had been fishing all night and had caught nothing. Then Jesus came along and said, "Put out into the deep water, and then let down your nets for a catch." After a night of failure, they did what Jesus told them, and they had so much success, they could hardly pull the catch into the boat! The disciples were amazed at the catch of fish they had taken.

I suppose I love that passage because I, too, have been surprised by God, and on more than one occasion. There have been many times across these few years when the body of faith known as Imagine Church has felt God's call to put out into the deep water and cast our nets. As we have done so, we have been surprised and amazed at the results.

In recent months, we have noticed a fascinating pattern. Each time we have moved outdoors for worship on our new church site, our attendance seems to take a quantum leap. Lots of those present are brand new to the Imagine movement. The number of young people participating in our Imagine Nation Youth seems to have doubled in 2021. More and more of our households with Imagine Kids are returning to in-person worship as the pandemic winds down. There is a wave of new first-time guests joining us for worship each Sunday.
I'm convinced that the reason Imagine Church is experiencing such a bountiful "catch" is because you and I, individually, have chosen to move out into the deep waters of spiritual faith. Churches grow and prosper as a result of God making a difference in the lives of so many individuals. We're beginning to comprehend so much more of the breadth and length and height and depth of the love of Christ which clearly surpasses our knowledge. We're learning just how effusive, how extravagant God wants to be with His grace here among us.

Christ is the only one who has the power to influence and inspire an entire community of people as we are witnessing these days. Our job is to trust that God has chosen to infuse that power within us in order that, as His people, we can replicate the DNA of the kingdom of God. We are on the threshold of a major new chapter in the history and development of Imagine Church as we move through the year 2021. We have chosen to venture out into the deep waters of Christ's mission. In doing so, we have learned that salvation is not our personal possession, but our gift to share.

In the name of the One who can do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine,
Bruce Jones, Pastor and Co-Creator,

Worship This Week
Over the last few weeks, we have been examining some of the habits displayed by happy people we have known, and when Imagine Church gathers for worship at 10:15 a.m. this Sunday, June 6, we'll make note of an important distinction happy people always know to make. We want you to adopt it, too! On Sunday, we will hear the conclusion of Bruce's series entitled, "The Habits of Happiness" and be inspired by the music of our acclaimed Imagine Church praise band. You can worship online on the Imagine Church Facebook page or join the growing number of people who are returning to worship in person in the beautiful Gordon-Conwell chapel. We hope you will be with us on Sunday.
Pool Party and Cookout for Ministry Volunteers
It's fitting to take a day to honor our various ministry volunteers, and we are grateful to Steve and Ginny Chole for offering to host a pool party and cookout at their lovely home this Saturday, June 5, starting at 4:00 p.m. with dinner served around 5:30. Bring your swimsuit and towel and plan to join us! Invitations were sent to members of the church staff and Leadership Team, as well as those serving on the music team, A/V team, safety & security team, and volunteers with Imagine Kids and Imagine Nation Youth. It will be fun to have such a gathering again!
Looking Ahead
Does anyone remember the Toy Story series from back in the pre-pandemic days? Well, we're going to finish it next Sunday with a look at Toy Story 3 entitled, "When You Have to Start Over." It's a heart-warming look at what the movie depicts but more importantly, at what the gospel teaches about starting over -- on Sunday, June 13.
We tried outdoor worship in the parking lot at Gordon-Conwell last year on Father's Day and it was, well, hot. Really hot. What a difference a year makes! This year we will be indoors in the air conditioning at Gordon-Conwell, but it will still be a memorable occasion as we will hear a remarkable testimony about fatherhood, and each dad will receive an individual gift. It's all on Father's Day, Sunday, June 20.
Bruce will introduce a brand new series on Sunday, June 27, called "Summer Baggage." As we go through life, we learn that our luggage is often filled with emotions we might be unaware we feel, but God invites us to release the burdens and trust Him to restore our brokenness and help us experience the freedom God offers.
What They're Saying

Thank you for the wonderful graduation card and gifts. I love the picture frame and water bottle so much! It was such a nice surprise to receive these, and I am so appreciative that you thought of me!

Thank you again so much, and I hope you have a blessed day!

Imagine Kids
This past Sunday, May 30, Gregory gave a family-friendly message to the entire church family, and Tamra shared a moment with parents. If you missed these messages, you can watch here:
(Tamra is at the 31:40 minute mark, and Gregory is at the 53:00 minute mark.)

Whether you're worshiping with us in person or from home, you can catch all of Gregory's pre-recorded weekly messages for Imagine Kids and their families on our Imagine Church Facebook page on Sundays at 9:45 a.m. But we'd love for you to join us in person this Sunday for Gregory's new summer series, "Nothing Can Separate Us From God's Love!" -- and invite a friend, too!
Memory Verse:
Parents, here is the memory verse for you to practice with your child(ren):

"Nothing at all can ever separate us from God's love. That's because of what Christ Jesus our Lord has done." (Romans 8:39b NIRV)

Parents, if the entire verse is too long for your preschooler, have them learn just this part:

"Nothing at all can ever separate us from God's love."

Often in life, we chase after things. We chase after friendships, popularity, or possessions. The things that we chase sometimes consume us to where it’s really all we can think about.

However, if we want affirmation that truly lasts the test of time, we’ve got to chase affirmation in something that doesn’t change. And that something is God. God created the world, He created you, and He loves you. From the beginning of time until now, He’s been chasing you because He wants to know you.

Today’s Truth: Chase Contentment Found in Your Creator
So instead of chasing things that change and chasing things that won’t stand the test of time, consider chasing something else. Chase after God. Chase your creator, get to know Him, and realize that He will give you the validation and fulfillment that you truly crave.

Weekly Inspiration and Encouragement
Inspirational Song:
By: Jeremy Camp

"This song 'Out Of My Hands' came from a time where I really battled with trust and I was holding onto things too much. This song came out saying 'God, I'm sorry for trying to hold things in my own hands because I'm not in control, you're in control.' And when I finally let that go, the peace came." ~ Jeremy Camp

Minister of Worship and the Arts

Bible Verse of Encouragement:
“When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.”
(Psalms 94:19 NIV)
Prayers and Praises
We express our deepest sympathy to Justin and Jennifer Tankersley, Hannah and Kate, at the death of Jennifer's father, David Edwards Debs, in Asheville, North Carolina, on May 27. Our prayers remain with Jennifer and her family in the coming days.

Lydia Smith reports that things have improved significantly for her father, Jerry Brownlee of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, now that they have better regulated his medications. He expects to return home soon from the nursing center in King, NC, where he has been for several days. We continue to pray for Lydia and for her dad.

Ann Rother sent a thank you note to the church and our Care and Compassion Team expressing thanks for the gift card to Cracker Barrel; she said she didn't feel much like cooking these days, so this was ideal. Ann's husband, Bud Rother, departed this life on May 2, and we held a service to remember and honor his life at Imagine Church on May 16. Please continue to hold Ann in your prayers.

Meredith Martone continues to heal and renew her strength as she recovers from serious injuries as a passenger in a car crash back in February, and we want to pray for her daily.
