"Love Always Hopes"
One of my top five favorite biblical passages is 1 Corinthians 13. I'm sure I'm not alone in saying that because it's a passage that many people appreciate and revere. I believe it's the most frequently read passage at weddings, hands down. It's often called "the love chapter."

Do you ever take time to explore the meaning of Paul's statements in 1 Corinthians 13? "Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth." Do you know what that means? It means that love is not trying to catch the other person doing something wrong. In fact, Paul writes, "Love keeps no record of wrongs." That means that love doesn't keep score of the past. "Love always protects." Protects from what? Love always protects from suspicion. Love always protects from a lack of trust. Love is always protective of the relationship.

Then Paul says this: "Love always hopes." I take that to mean that love trends positive. I'm not going to allow myself to go negative. Then he says, "And love always perseveres." I'm not going to allow the relationship to fall into the trap that I have set through my expectations. Love is determined to trust.
Here's the question I'm left with after years of living with and reading 1 Corinthians 13. Based on your personality, based on your experience, based on what you know about yourself, do you believe the best, or do you assume the worst? Which way do you go? Do you choose to believe the best about your spouse or life partner? Or do you stay angry all the time because you always assume the worst?

Imagine sitting down someday with your future kids or your current kids who are older and about to get married, and you're going to give them advice about a successful relationship. You could say, "Basically, honey, lay a trap, wait, and he will step into it eventually. And then you can say, 'Aha! I knew this was going to happen!'" Or, you could tell them, "Always choose to trust in your future relationship, and believe the best."

I've come to believe that our hearts, and ultimately our behavior, are always drawn to trust. When you create an atmosphere of high trust, you create an environment of high acceptance. And all of our hearts are drawn to acceptance.  That's the path that 1 Corinthians 13 sets forth, because love always hopes. I'm not keeping score. I am going to choose to believe the best.

In the name of the One who can do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine,

Worship This Week
Imagine Church is fortunate because we have so many dads who are actively and passionately involved in the life and witness of our church family which mirrors their involvement in their own families as well. This Sunday, June 20, we will join our country in honoring our dads on Father's Day when we gather for our 10:15 a.m. worship both in person in the beautiful Gordon-Conwell chapel and online on the Imagine Church Facebook page. Each dad will receive an individual gift, and we will hear a poignant word of testimony from one of our dads, as well as a brief Father's Day message from Pastor Bruce. invite your dad to worship with you this Sunday! Please note that babies can be taken directly to the nursery upon arrival to GCTS, and all other kids and youth will be dismissed for their sessions after praise and worship.
Summer Series Begins on June 27
Sunday, June 27, introduces a six-week summer message series which will seek to uncover some of the heaviest baggage we carry and will invite us to exchange it for the peace Jesus offers. Our baggage is often filled with emotions we might be unaware we feel, but God invites us to release the burdens and to trust Him to restore our brokenness and help us experience the freedom God offers. Plan to be with us!

Imagine Kids
This past Sunday, June 13, Gregory shared his message titled "Can Harm or Hunger Separate Us From Christ's Love!" (at the 28:50 minute mark).
We invite Imagine Kids of ALL ages (nursery through 5th grade) to join us at Gordon-Conwell this Sunday, June 20, for Gregory's message, "Can Danger Separate Us From Christ's Love?". Babies can be dropped off in the nursery immediately upon arrival to GCTS, and Imagine Kids will depart from the chapel after praise and worship. We hope you will bring a friend with you!
Memory Verse:
Parents, here is the memory verse for you to practice with your child(ren):

"Nothing at all can ever separate us from God's love. That's because of what Christ Jesus our Lord has done." (Romans 8:39b NIRV)

Parents, if the entire verse is too long for your preschooler, have them learn just this part:

"Nothing at all can ever separate us from God's love."

For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and evil of every kind. – James 1:16 (NLT)

Jealousy and comparison are such easy habits to fall into. Maybe you see someone else promoted at their job, and it makes you feel unnoticed at your job. Perhaps you see everyone around you in a relationship, and you feel like you’ll never meet someone special to date.

You can’t compare yourself to others and be happy at the same time. Comparison is one of the quickest ways to bring unhappiness into your life. If you spend all your time thinking of all the ways your life doesn’t measure up to the lives of others, you’ll never be truly happy.

If you want to be happier, you’ve got to determine to not allow jealousy to rule you. Instead, find ways to be happy with who you are in Christ Jesus. Ask God to show you your strengths and choose to focus on using those strengths to help others. Contentment comes from focusing on who you are in Jesus.

Be the Hands and Feet of Jesus
There are so many opportunities that exist for our church to be the hands and feet of Jesus by helping others through various means of service right here in our community and around the world. If you have a heart for missions, you are invited to join the Missions Team or simply support its initiatives. For more information about the Missions Team, please email Kari DiDonato at her Imagine Church email: imaginechurch2014@gmail.com
As we've mentioned in previous weeks, our Mission Project for June is with our strategic global partner, Philippine Hope!

The King will reply, "I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me."

COVID has certainly affected our world, and we have the opportunity to help some children in the Philippines where our missionaries, Paul and Cecilia Bosch, reside. They have partnered with Tanglag Elementary School to provide much needed equipment in an area where families do not have internet.
How can YOU help?

  • We are seeking monetary donations for two (2) printers/copiers, paper, folders, and supplies. Our goal is $920, and our mission team will match your monetary donation dollar for dollar!
  • Additionally, we are asking for 2 gently used laptops (2016 or newer) to send to the school.

Please contact Tyra Jones at 704-408-9395 if you have laptops for pickup, or feel free to bring them to church any Sunday in June. If you will be making a monetary donation, please note "Philippines" on your check, or specify "Philippine Hope" from the drop-down menu of our online donation site.

Thank you to those of you who have already contributed toward this initiative, and we look forward to seeing how God will bless this project!

Prayers and Praises
We offer prayers for Rae Opalacz's brother, Tom, who resides in Connecticut and is facing a variety of health issues. Rae and her husband, Ron Opalacz, are new to Imagine Church, and Rae has been with her brother in Connecticut in recent days.

Jerry Brownlee (father of Lydia Smith) went to the oncologist last Friday and received the encouraging news that his cancer has not spread and that immunotherapy is a good option due to the favorable response from the biopsy. We are grateful for this report and continue to hold Jerry in our prayers.

We continue to pray for Meredith Martone as she heals and makes her way back from injuries sustained in an accident.

Why Imagine Church?
We believe the goal of church is not to make people more religious but to help people fall more in love with God and therefore become more fully human. We come together as a community to support one another, learn together, and challenge each other. That's Imagine Church!
Imagine what God can do through us.
