Hello ISNP Upper Campus Students and Families,
Our return from the Thanksgiving Holiday was an exciting one as students and staff jumped right into the many activities of Spirit Week! Numerous photos are included in this newsletter to give you a snapshot of some of the fun and festivities. A special thank you goes out to Mrs. Fields for her hard work in organizing and coordinating the week of events. She also had the help of the Student Government Association (SGA) and numerous faculty and staff. Thank you to everyone who assisted and for making it an enjoyable week for ISNP students!
ISNP K-12 has received community donations of household items and uniforms for our families that have been negatively impacted by Hurricane Ian. If your family is in need of items, please contact Mrs. DeMaio at the Elementary Campus at 941-426-2050 (extension 165) or via email at jennifer.demaio@imaginenorthport.com.
In my last newsletter, I informed you that adoption of our revised school calendar was contingent upon final review and approval from the District and the State. Last week, ISNP received approval. The Revised 2022-2023 ISNP School Calendar is linked here and attached below. As stated previously, the calendar adds two instructional days for students, January 9, 2022 and March 20, 2023. These two days were previously scheduled as Professional Days. Additionally, ISNP Upper Campus has cancelled all Early Release Days for the remainder of the school year. The Early Release Days are now full instructional days. The revised ISNP Upper Campus Bell Schedules are also attached below.
Just in time for the Holiday Season, ISNP Boosters has put together a spectacular way for you to purchase gift cards and support ISNP at the same time! Please see the informational flyer included below and linked here for more details, and you may contact Mr. Dug Stetter at Dug.stetter@imaginenorthport.com for questions.
This Tuesday, December 6, is a special night for Seniors and their parents. It is ISNP FAFSA Night. Please see the details below and contact Mrs. Amy Van Pelt at Amy.vanpelt@imaginenorthport.com with any questions. We hope to see you there!
Enjoy your week!

ISNP 2022 Teacher of the Year!
Dr. Patricia Burden-Evans
|
|
Dr. Evans is in her fourth year at Imagine School at North Port (ISNP). She began as an 8th grade science teacher and is currently teaching 6th grade science. She also serves as the 6th Grade Team Leader. Prior to coming to ISNP, Dr. Evans taught for five years as an elementary and high school teacher.
Dr. Evans' passion for learning and teaching is evident in all she does. When nominating her as Teacher of the Year, her colleagues stated, "Dr. Evans goes above and beyond when it comes to her job as a teacher and when it comes to how she treats her students and her peers. She is a highly dedicated and caring professional, who will do whatever it takes to help her students succeed. She is always pleasant, caring, and willing to go the extra step to help make ISNP the best learning and working environment it can be."
When asked her thoughts about teaching in general and working at ISNP, Dr. Evans stated, "as a teacher, I absolutely love conveying new and exciting scientific information to all of my students. I strongly believe there are 3 D's to Science: Defining, Discovering, and Deducing. My classroom is driven by these 3 D's. As a lifelong learner, I love gaining knowledge on diverse subjects, and I must constantly evaluate myself to ensure that I inspire and serve as a model for my students, lighting the path for them and their learning. My passion for Imagine comes from my adoration of the students and from working with the most amazing and compassionate faculty and staff."
Congratulations Dr. Evans on earning the 2022 ISNP Teacher of the Year, and thank you for your ongoing devotion to the growth and success of our students and our school!

ISNP 2022 Staff Member of the Year!
Mr. Fred Bratt
|
|
Mr. Bratt is in his second year as the Facilities Manager at ISNP. He says, "before Imagine, I wore many different hats, the latest being pool construction. Working at Imagine allows me to do a little of everything each day."
The nature of his job calls for flexibility and an ability to perform a wide array of tasks. Mr. Bratt has proven himself to be quite versatile and very hardworking during his short time at ISNP.
Faculty and staff state that Mr. Bratt, "is always willing to help others whether their need is large or small. He is friendly, concerned, honest, efficient, and effective. He responds quickly to our needs and concerns, goes above and beyond, and is very focused on getting things done. He is always on the move and takes care of what he can immediately. Fred greets everyone with humor and kindness. He was hard at work just days after the hurricane (putting off the needs of his own home) making sure our "home" was okay. He worked tirelessly to recover the school as quickly as he could, and without his dedication, our school may not have been able to open when it did."
Thank you Mr. Bratt for your commitment to ISNP, and congratulations on earning Staff Member of the Year!

Mrs. Bratt:
Our reading classes are utilizing the Read180 independent component as well as practicing grammar and vocabulary skills on a daily basis. Students are currently reading a range of novels using class sets in addition to audiobooks. Novels include Hana’s Suitcase (6th grade), Hatchet (7-8th grade), and The Color of Water (9-10th grade). Please encourage your child to read at home as well, and please contact me with any questions about what we are working on in class.
|
|
Mr. Derhaliuk (6th Grade):
Students in my classes are working on various literature and nonfiction readings using the StudySync program. We are currently reading A Wrinkle in Time. Students incorporate daily journal writing and grammar warm-ups to help improve their writing and editing skills.
|
|
Mrs. Fields:
Currently, we are engaged in a novel study of The Call of the Wild by Jack London. This is the classic tale of Buck, a St Bernard - Scotch Shepherd mixed breed dog that begins his life as a pampered pet but is later kidnapped and forced to adapt to survive in the Canadian wilderness.
Students are practicing identifying elements of figurative language which are prevalent throughout the novel. They are also working on vocabulary practice and grammar basics. We will conclude our novel unit by watching The Call of the Wild movie and writing an essay comparing and contrasting the different forms of medium. We will then read another classic passage (non-novel) written by Jack London. This will allow the students to appreciate and examine the techniques an author may use when writing in different genres.

Dr. Rose:
Dr. Rose’s English IV classes are doing an in-depth Shakespeare study that includes Macbeth, Hamlet, and Romeo and Juliet. In this photo, students are acting out a scene from Macbeth in front of their peers!

In other athletic news:
The Lady Sharks Basketball Team defeated Southwest Florida Christian 49-38 on November 21, during the Thanksgiving Holiday. The Lady Sharks jumped to a early 8 point lead and never looked back. Makayla Rassbach scored a career high 37 points and Emily Tabor and Katiya Serechenko chipped in with big defensive plays to seal the victory for the Lady Sharks. The Lady Sharks remain unbeaten heading into a great test against Oasis on December 5.
Last night, December 3, the Boys' Varsity Basketball Team played Marco Island Academy. Although Marco defeated the Sharks 63-54, ISNP played very well for three quarters and held a lead into the 3rd. A few untimely turnovers and some big shots by Marco Island sealed the game for them. Coach Taft adds, "each game we are improving leaps and bounds. We have a young team with not a lot of varsity experience but each week we are learning and showing improvement." Despite the defeat, Angelo Blas gave a great performance in last night's game with 27 points, 8 steals, and 7 rebounds.
Go Sharks!

It was a great turnout with over 150 pancake breakfasts served. Thank you for supporting ISNP Music!
