Congratulations to the ISNP 2021 Teacher of the Year, Mr. Jake Heaton!
|
|
"This is my 11th year at ISNP. I worked in Spain for two years teaching English before starting at Imagine. I taught Spanish for 7 years before switching over to 6th grade math. While teaching Spanish, I served as the Electives Team Leader and the advisor for several clubs. Now I serve as the 6th grade team lead and offer tutoring before school and at ASAP. I really enjoy seeing my students learn, and I love every bit of my job."
Upon nominating Mr. Heaton, his peers stated that he frequently “goes out of his way” to support others and provide guidance, and that he makes new staff and students feel welcomed and heard. “He is committed to the students and a friendly face on campus.”
Congratulations Mr. Heaton on being selected by your peers as this year's Teacher of the Year. We greatly appreciate the commitment you bring every day to the classroom. The ongoing success of your students is a testament to your dedication. Thank you!

The ISNP 2021 Staff Member of the Year Mrs. Amy Van Pelt
|
|
Mrs. Van Pelt began teaching at Imagine School at Northport when it opened in 2008. She began as an Elementary Math and Science teacher for grades 3-5 and eventually joined the Electives team as a STEM teacher. In 2019, Mrs. Van Pelt became the Guidance Counselor for elementary and middle school students coordinating her time between both campuses. At the beginning of this year, Mrs. Van Pelt became the High School Academic Advisor helping students to successfully navigate high school and assisting them in preparing for college and other post-secondary goals.
ISNP faculty and staff stated that Mrs. Van Pelt goes well above and beyond as a Counselor; she truly cares about the staff and students, speaks to them with dignity and respect and always shows a positive attitude; she represents Imagines’ 6 Pillars of Character and exhibits an outstanding work effort.
Congratulations Mrs. Van Pelt on this well-earned award! Thank you for your continued dedication and commitment to the growth of ISNP and our students!

Understanding History:
The Immigrant Experience
|
|
Last week, students in Mrs. Ness' United States History classes finished their unit on immigration and urbanization. Lessons in this unit included students playing the interactive online game City of Immigrants. This is a role-playing game that has participants walk in the shoes of a fictional young person during an important period in U.S. history.
Although fictional, the characters are based on the experiences of actual people and the games are designed to provide interpretations of what happened in the past based on careful research. The fate of the student's character depends on the choices each student makes. The imaginary character for Mrs. Ness' class was Lena Brodsky, a 14-year-old Russian immigrant living in New York City in 1907 who works long hours in a factory trying to save money to bring her family to America. Students learned the impacts of child labor and the development of the labor movement.
Students worked at their own pace and each decision they made could lead to vastly different experiences for Lena. Each choice was realistic to an immigrant's experience, and every decision impacted the next step in Lena's journey. The pictures included above are of students in various stages of the game.

On Friday, November 19, Mrs. Webb's math classes enjoyed a day outside participating in math scavenger hunts. Students worked with a partner or a small group to solve equations posted around campus.
Algebra 1 Honors solved and graphed inequalities with variables on both sides; pre-algebra students worked on solving equations with exponents using the order of operations; and 5th-period students solved word problems with fractions.
It was a great day to get outside, get moving, and solve math equations!

Happy Birthday U.S. Marine Corps!
|
|
Each year, members of the Sarasota-Manatee Navy League help to celebrate the United States Marine Corp's (USMC) Birthday.
This year our Imagine Young Marines provided a Color Guard at the beginning of the evening. Color Guard members (left to right with Major General Dimetri Henry) included Young Marines Gunnery Sergeant Hunter Perry, Gunnery Sergeant Gilberto Berrios, Sergeant Hannah Weinrich, and Sergeant Cayne Roser. Also in attendance were Corporal Chuck Raposa and Adult Volunteer Jennifer Morales.
The special quest speaker was USMC Major General Dimetri Henry (bottom left photo). In addition, YM Roser was chosen to help cut the USMC Birthday cake. It is a tradition for the oldest and youngest attending Marines (bottom right) to assist with this special honor. Happy Birthday USMC!

Current Protocols for Students with Exposure to COVID-19
- Parents or legal guardians of students who are known to have been in direct contact with an individual who received a positive diagnostic test for COVID-19 may choose one of the following options:
-
Allow their student to attend school, school-sponsored activities, or be on school property, without restrictions or disparate treatment, so long as the student remains asymptomatic; or
-
Quarantine the student for a period of time not to exceed seven days from the date of last direct contact with an individual that is positive for COVID-19.
Currently, ISNP Upper Campus has no students and no staff members out due to testing positive for COVID-19. You may access the ISNP COVID-19 Dashboard HERE, and an updated infographic is attached below that provides quick reference to the latest guidance on quarantining.
If you have any questions about these protocols, please contact Ms. Mary Devore, Clinic Aide, by calling 941-426-2050, ext. 602 or by emailing her at Mary.devore@imagineschools.org.
