Growing in the New Year
I hope as you make goals and resolutions in the new year that you make your spiritual growth a priority. We are beginning a series on the Gospel of John entitled "New Beginnings" which invites us to discover deeper life in Christ and a whole new life that only Christ can offer. We are very aware that due to the pandemic many families are under financial strain and we want to say please take care of your families and let us be a blessing to you. Others have stepped up their financial support to help during these difficult times and we want to thank them for their partnership in ministry. We continue to have folks mail in or drop off checks or send bank checks for their tithes and offerings as well as use automatic giving and give online through our website secure donation service. We appreciate your continued generosity for general support as well as special offerings during these difficult times.

Your 2022 offering envelopes are available to be picked up in the gathering space. If you do not have envelopes but would like them call the church office.

Treats For Teachers at Earhart
As a way of thanking our teachers for all they do, we would like to provide a treat for the teachers at Earhart once a month. These treats can be homemade or store bought. We will be taking treats on Jan 19, Feb 16, Mar 16, Apr 20, and May 18. If you would be willing to provide a treat for the teacher one of these day see Tari Seeger. If you would prefer to make a donation Those can be given to Tari Seeger. Thank You for your support.
We still need someone to provide treats for Jan.19th.

Growing Hope Globally
Your generosity and the proceeds from our harvest allowed us to send over $10,000 to help support the people in this heavily populated but extremely poor area of the country. Cereal banks are being built as a strategy to reduce food insecurity. Because of your generous giving and God’s blessing on our harvest, we can help those people across the world who often do not have enough to eat.
Again, thank you Immanuel for your continued support of this wonderful mission! We look forward to another great year in 2022.

Cover Lafayette
The Immanuel youth will be collecting items to support Cover Lafayette. Drop your new or gently used blankets and winter clothing items in the box. We will be collecting all winter long. You may also drop items off on your own, at the back porch of the Buttery Shelf Restaurant.
We want to help those who are living on the streets keep from freezing in these cold winter months. For more information see Tari Seeger.

Attention Cooks
We have a large amount of dishes in the kitchen from our wonderful cooks, who have brought items for various events. I encourage you to look at what is down there. We would like to make sure these items get back to their owner. Items not picked up by the end of January will be taken to Good Will.

Book Club

Trip to the Holy Land is Postponed until Sept. 2022
Due to COVID restrictions and protocols we are postponing the trip to the Holy Land until September 2022. So there is lots of time if you are interested in joining the trip to the Holy Land. Join us on the Sea of Galilee; pray in Bethlehem, and reaffirm your baptism at the Jordan River. Brochures are available at the church office. Pastor Norm Nellis is coordinating our trip. Questions? E-votional by Pastor TJ
Perspective
There are a lot of books and articles on the benefits of positive thinking and having a positive outlook. But few really have insight or guidance on how to change our deep inner selves where attitudes are generated. Paul’s challenge and encouragement is quite different. Writing from a cold, dark prison cell, where he is imprisoned for his faith, Paul challenges people facing adversity and even persecution, to anchor their faith and life in Christ, who alone can hold us secure through any of the storms of life. Only Christ can give a deep peace through the most turbulent times. With that in mind, Paul challenges us to focus on what is true and noble and all the positive aspects of life, confident that God has a plan and a purpose and God has the power to see us through. Listen again to Paul’s words of challenge and encouragement:

“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. 9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.” (Philippians 4:4–9 NIV11)

Gracious God, in this new year, help me to have confidence in your plan and purpose for my life, even when buffeted by the storms of life. Let my life be anchored in Christ, knowing you alone bring peace amid the storm. Give me vision to see the plan you have more my life, and faith to trust you to fulfill it, through your power and to your glory, amen.
