Immanuel Welcomes Rev. Bill Evans - This Sunday we are pleased to welcome the Rev. Bill Evans as our guest preacher. Bill and his wife, Gwen, have five adult children and twelve grandchildren. Six of those grandchildren live nearby, while the others are divided between Oregon and San Diego.
After college, Bill enlisted in the Army before seminary, taking advantage of the GI Bill, and later, as a young pastor, found himself serving as a Navy chaplain in Yokosuka, Japan. He served in both active duty and the Reserves before returning to parish ministry.
His longest pastorate was eleven years at Tortolita Presbyterian Church in northwest Tucson. Bill says that his years in the Navy prepared him well for his later ministry as a transitional and interim pastor, a role he served in four congregations after leaving Tortolita.
Along the way, he wrote songs for many years and, last October, at age 75, published his first book, Lessons from Baseball: The Game I Love. But of all the callings he has known, Bill says his favorite has been being Grandpa— or, as he’s known to his grandchildren, Papa Bill.
