Dear Friends,
As we prepare for the 2026 Annual Meeting between services this Sunday, I want to share an updated timeline for our pastoral leadership transition.
My last Sunday with Immanuel will be April 19. Last March, I accepted an invitation to serve as Sabbatical Pastor at Southside Presbyterian Church for four months while Rev. Alison Harrington is away. I will begin that ministry on April 20. While the overlap in timing is not ideal, the session and I have identified a workable path forward.
I will continue serving as Interim Pastor until a new pastor is called, but with adjusted responsibilities. I will remain head of staff, moderator of session, a resource to committees, and a co-officiant at memorial services. I will also continue collaborating with staff on planning worship. The primary change is that I will no longer be present on Sunday mornings. Kris Goorsky will continue preaching monthly and co-leading worship, supported by guest preachers from our presbytery.
This creative arrangement allows Immanuel to maintain continuity in key leadership areas while also enabling me to honor my commitment to Southside. It also relieves pressure that a hurried interim timeline might place on the Pastor Nominating Committee. If you have any questions about this, please reach out to me or to elders on session. See you Sunday!
Pastor Bart

This Sunday Immanuel Welcomes Pastor Kay Travis
I, Kay Childs-Travis, come to you today by way of life in Arkansas, Tucson, Arkansas and Sierra Vista. My college education has been obtained one or two classes at a time at University of Arizona, Pima College, University of Arkansas at Monticello and Teaching Elders in Pines Presbytery. I am retired from Arkansas State Police. During my last two years as a Senior Investigator in the Crimes Against Children Division, I took on the Commissioned Ruling Elder/Commissioned Pastor training in Pines Presbytery. It was a two-year course.
I have been married to Johnnie Travis for almost 34 years. Johnnie took his Commissioned Ruling Elder/Commissioned Pastor training in Arkansas Presbytery. We have both served churches in Arkansas and Pines Presbyteries. Since moving to Sierra Vista five years ago as an action of “retirement”, I have served as Gap Pastor at Faith Presbyterian Church, Sierra Vista, for 1 year and now almost 3 years at Covenant Presbyterian, Bisbee.
Between us, Johnnie and I have 4 children, a passel of grandchildren and now the great grands are coming on. Thank you for inviting me to participate in your worship services today. And may God bless each one of us as we complete our journey of faith.

Our Amazing Immanuel Quilters and Crafters Group has donated over 15 handmade quilts to two different organizations. First is CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates). These quilts will go to children in the foster care system along with a stuffed animal. The second organization is Roots and Roads Community Hospice Foundation. Roots and Roads works to ensure hospice patients and their loved ones are empowered to transform the end-of-life experience into the final act of living well.
Thank you Quilters - for all your hard work creating these very special quilts filled with love.

Pastor Nominating Committee News - We continue to receive applications and screen pastoral candidates. We are now on step 12 of the Immanuel Trail: Calling A Pastor. We have been on this step for a while, but this is necessary because it is a crucial step in finding the best fit for Immanuel's pastor/head of staff position. In addition to reviewing applications and statements of faith on an on-going basis, we are also watching a lot of sermons online and conducting interviews on weekends, in between our weekly meetings. We are guided by the Holy Spirit and are confident in God's guidance as we continue to practice due diligence in our search efforts.
We welcome your thoughts and questions to our confidential email immanuelpnc@gmail.com or reach out to Laura Fennema, Cheralynn Baylor, Laurie Emery, Jon Friedmeyer, Debby Johnson, Joey Samoy and Sean Shifflette.

What is Confirmation? Many of our young people were baptized as infants or young children, with parents making promises on their behalf. Confirmation gives youth the opportunity to personally affirm that they want to continue growing in their faith and relationship with God. We are offering Confirmation class for all youth and young adults from 6th grade through college who wish to affirm their Baptism. Our six-week of class will cover what it means to be a Presbyterian, what it means to belong to the church as an adult member, The Creeds (statements of belief) and the Lord’s Prayer and time for questions and discussion.
Beginning on March 22, the classes will meet on Sunday mornings from 10:00 - 10:45am (no class on Sundays without Sunday School or Youth Group). We will confirm youth on Youth Sunday, May 17th.
As part of the Confirmation process, each youth will spend time (3 meetings) with a mentor from Immanuel. This helps them build a relationship with another trusted adult and hear stories of faith. Youth should choose their own mentor, (a member of Immanuel, age 25+, same gender). If they need help choosing, Shane Burton and I can assist. I will train mentors and run background checks.
If you have any questions, please let me know. Confirmation is one of my favorite times in ministry. We all grow together with each other and with our Creator. I hope your youth will participate!
