Hello Immanuel!

When Jesus was born, he was laid in a manger, a feeding trough, in a town called Bethlehem, which means “House of Bread.” From the very beginning, Jesus was there to help fill the needs of people all around him—not just for food, but for love, belonging, and care. Jesus fed their bellies and hearts! Jesus spent his whole life feeding people.

When people sought him out because they wanted more bread, Jesus reminded them that while bread fills us up for a little while, God could give them something that would last forever. He said, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” Jesus showed that he came not just to fill their stomachs but to fill their hearts and lives with everything they truly needed.

People hunger for more than food. We all want to feel like we belong, have friends, learn and grow, and feel better when we are hurt or sad. Jesus called himself the “bread of life” because he came to help fill these needs in people’s hearts, minds, and spirits.

Join us this Lent as we focus on the Bread of Life, through the divine generosity of God and how we can share with the world out of the abundance we have received from the bread of life.

See you Sunday!

Kris Goorsky

Upcoming News and Events

This Sunday is Woman Composer Sunday. For centuries, women were excluded or discouraged from contributing music for the church. Established in 2021 by the Society of Women Organists and Royal College of Organists in the United Kingdom and adopted by the American Guild of Organists, Woman Composer Sunday raises awareness of the contributions of these composers during Women’s History Month.

Immanuel Director of Music Ministries Clay Whittington and pianist Carol Van Gelder are joining others in the United States, the U.K., and around the world on this day by performing works by Twila Paris, Margaret Bonds, Brenda Portman, Rebecca Groom te Velde, and Suzanne Toolan, RSM during our alternative and traditional worship services.

Calendar Notes:
