Kia Ora,
Welcome to our latest newsletter - the ultimate guide for all things immigration and education in New Zealand. In this edition, we're serving stimulating topics designed to equip you with knowledge and awareness.
Are you searching for employment opportunities in New Zealand? Despite the pointers indicating that New Zealand's economy is in recession, net immigration rates are at an all-time high. This influx of immigration has led to increased employment prospects, particularly in healthcare, transportation, and non-health sector roles. The government has even implemented policy changes to provide skilled migrants with quicker and assured residence pathways, making New Zealand an enticing destination for those looking to build their careers.
Meanwhile, Primary teachers have agreed to the Government’s pay offer, which will see the top base salary increase to $100,000 by December next year. The settlement will also see a number of improvements to primary teachers’ conditions, including more than double the classroom release time they currently have to manage workload, phased in over 2024 and 2025.
Although Immigration New Zealand granted 20,331 study visas for international students between September 2022 and April 2023, this figure is 22% lower than during the same period in 2018-19. Meanwhile, first-time student visa applications have decreased by 19%, with 31% of new Indian visa applications being refused. This decline is a cause for concern in the New Zealand education industry, despite increased users from India on the Education New Zealand (ENZ) website. The discrepancy between website traffic figures and approved student visas raises a red flag.
To help students find study options that align with their interests and qualifications, Education New Zealand has just launched a study matching tool. Some of the popular courses being highlighted among international students in this edition include Master of Construction Management, Master of Hotel Management, Master of Applied Management, and Graduate Diploma in Teaching (ECE).
