IMMIGRATION ALERT
COVID-19 – U.S. Borders with Mexico and Canada to
Close This Weekend

Earlier today, the White House announced that all nonessential travel between the U.S. and Mexico will stop as of Saturday, March 21, in an attempt to stop the spread of Coronavirus/COVID-19.

This agreement follows the partial closing of the U.S. border with Canada announced earlier this week. While both agreements go into effect Saturday, it is important to note these travel restrictions DO NOT APPLY to "lawful trade or commerce" and essential commercial activities . The restrictions at these borders will be reviewed after 30 days.

The U.S. Department of State (DOS) says it is temporarily suspending routine visa services at all U.S. embassies and consulates because of COVID-19. As early as last week, some routine U.S. visa services had already been suspended in some countries, but with the pandemic hitting on a global level, those services have been suspended worldwide.

Additionally, the DOS issued its highest travel warning (Level 4) on March 19 , instructing U.S. citizens NOT TO TRAVEL INTERNATIONALLY and urging those who are overseas to return home or be prepared to shelter in place for an extended period of time.
