The Los Angeles County Office of Education’s Community Schools Initiative stands in solidarity with our students, families, staff and community members in light of recent events related to immigration enforcement across our region. We recognize that these enforcement actions have been traumatizing for many in our communities.
Community schools embrace the diversity of their communities and create educational environments that uplift and support all students and families. We are committed to being driven by teaching and learning that is inclusive of and centered on the wisdom, history, culture and experiences of our students, families and communities.
As community school leaders, we have a responsibility to be present in our communities during these challenging times and create safe spaces where our students, families and community members feel seen, valued and supported.
LACOE believes, prioritizes and ensures that all public schools, especially our community schools, are places where all students, families and staff are connected with resources that build their assets and support them to thrive even in difficult situations.
The resources below offer additional support for discussing immigration-related concerns and provide social-emotional resources to help both children and adults process their emotions and cope with stress and anxiety.
