Waterloo Region is located on the traditional territory of the Haudenosaunee Anishnaabe and Chonnonton peoples.  This land, within the Haldimand tract, is promised to the Six Nations of the Grand River, taking in six miles on each side of the Grand River. We acknowledge the enduring presence of the Indigenous people with whom we share this land, and our shared responsibility to help realise the Truth and Reconciliation calls to action.

IP in the community

Over the past few weeks, we’ve been out in the community connecting with partners, employers and residents, celebrating new initiatives and bringing people together. Here are a few highlights from where we’ve been.

Grand River Friendship Society’s Gratitude Table Dinner

We were grateful to join the Grand River Friendship Society’s Gratitude Table Dinner, an evening of connection, shared conversations, and reflection on the meaning of gratitude. It was a wonderful reminder of the importance of coming together and learning from one another.

Thank you to the Grand River Friendship Society for bringing our community together!

Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Announcement

We were excited to join Federal Minister Lena Metlege Diab during her recent visit to Communitech, where she announced changes to Canada’s Express Entry System. With MP Tim Louis, our Executive Director Tara Bedard got to meet the minister and invite her back to Waterloo Region for a showcase of the amazing collaborative work happening across sectors to support immigration.

Introducing The Village Parenting Centre

After 40 years of serving the community, The Pregnancy Centre has officially become The Village Parenting Centre. The new name better reflects the full scope of the organization’s work supporting Waterloo Region families navigating pregnancy and the early years of raising children from 0 – 4 years old. The Village believes strong communities grow when families have access to compassionate care. By collaborating with community partners, the organization helps parents access the practical resources and emotional support they need to thrive.

To advance this mission, The Village is inviting the community to join Waterloo Region’s largest diaper drive. From October 1st to 31st, the Diaper Our City campaign aims to collect 500 boxes of diapers and raise $30,000 for families with limited resources. Every contribution will help provide children with the diapers they need to stay clean, dry, and healthy.
