Immigration and the Economy Forum, Nov 13, 11:30am-2pm
(G) The Immigration Partnership’s 2019 Immigration Forum is being hosted with the Greater KW Chamber of Commerce, with a focus on “Immigration and the Economy.” The forum will include a panel discussion with Karen Redman, Chair for Waterloo Region, and Tony LaMantia, President and CEO of Waterloo EDC.
Waterloo Region Newcomer Landlord Awards, Nov 21, 9-11am
(G) Immigration partnership is celebrating the Waterloo Region Newcomer Landlord Award on Nov 21 to recognize the generosity of those that provide flexible housing solutions for recent immigrants & refugees. The Awards will be presented at the local National Housing Day celebration, hosted by the Region of Waterloo.
Part-Time Job Expo, Nov 28, 3-6pm
(G) The Workforce Planning Board of Waterloo Wellington Dufferin and Immigration Partnership invite job seekers to visit this job expo focused on part-time employment. Employers in Waterloo Region looking for increasing their pool of possible applicants by offering part-time positions, can register for a booth   at this job expo.
Refugee Claimant Information Session, a Library Settlement Partnership Program
Nov 12, 6:30-8pm
(I) This session will focus on information regarding "what's next" after filing a claim and after receiving a decision. Rights and obligations as a refugee claimant will also be discussed. Light refreshments and bus tickets will be provided.
Newcomer young men: Tips for Engagement in Social and Recreational Programming, Nov 13, 12:30-1:30pm EST
(I) For this webinar, Immigrant And Refugee Mental Health Project brings Burke Brokenshire, the Child and Youth Programs Coordinator (Acting) at the Association for New Canadians, who leads a monthly men's group which serves to engage newcomer men of all ages to foster relationships with one another and to their community.
Affordable Home Ownership for Newcomers, a Library Settlement Partnership Program, Nov 14, 5:30-7:30pm
(I) This session will provide attendees with information on the Affordable Home Ownership program: what kind of support the program offers, who is eligible, and how to apply. Translation will be provided in Arabic. Bus tickets and light refreshments will be provided.
Redefining the Role of Front-Line Settlement Counsellors: 8 Critical Competencies for Success, Nov 22, 12-1pm ET
(SP) This webinar offers the opportunity to further explore the key learnings from the Final Report of the CERIC-funded project undertaken by eCaliberGroup and Calience Research and Consulting . This research project has identified the need to rethink the role of front-line settlement counsellors, especially as immigration levels rise (check your time zone here).
Asking our Communities: A Journey to Understand Participation and Involvement, Nov 26, 1-2pm EDT
(G) Join a discussion with Vancouver Foundation's Lidia Kemeny and Tamarack's Paul Born as they explore how we can engage community to get input on a particular issue. This webinar will discuss findings on questions about how citizens feel about participating and about feeling involved in community life.
Canadian Council for Refugees Fall Consultation, Nov 28-30, Ottawa
(G) This consultation will explore current issues affecting refugee protection and newcomer settlement. With views from all Canadian provinces and with experts in diverse fields, the Consultation also offers opportunities for professional development, networking and strategy. All are welcome to participate!
Civic and Community Engagement

It is time to participate in shaping our future as a community!  The Region of Waterloo is reviewing the Regional Official Plan (ROP) and is encouraging residents to comment on project updates, ask questions or attend a public meeting to have their say. The first round of community and stakeholder engagement begins in November 2019. To learn more about the ROP, or see future opportunities for input, visit the project page .
The Social Development Centre of Waterloo Region invites the community to join this annual celebration of the Festival of Neighbourhoods on Sunday, Nov 17, 1-3pm at Kitchener City Hall Rotunda. Regardless of having registered gatherings with the Festival this year or not, come and explore with neighbours from all over the city to fill up your Neighbourhood Loot Bag with ideas that are fun, surprisingly simple, empowering and within your REACH! RSVP by November 7th.
Research and Data
This report offers direct-care staff, service planners and policy makers the knowledge and tools needed to build culturally safe, competent and diverse mental health services for Canada’s Immigrant, Refugee, Ethno-cultural and Racialized (IRER) populations. This includes best practices, based on Canadian and international literature, that can be replicated across Canada.
Century Initiative developed this paper seeking to advance a discussion of how international education can be leveraged to help increase the populations and build the economies of these communities over the long term.
