Dear Impact 100 Greater Peninsula community:

While we fight back the winter temperatures, we are pleased to see spring around the corner. For our team at Impact 100, we have been busy building our philanthropic mission through a January leadership retreat and spending many hours in discussions with our community to renew current and engage new members.

With $76,000 pledged to date, we are proud to say our $150,000 grantmaking goal is just within our reach. While we are optimistic about our ability to continue meeting the financial needs in the Greater Peninsula community, we are 100% dependent on our membership donations to make two $50,000 grants, plus our bonus plan for smaller grants from the additional $50,000.  Don’t worry, there’s still time!  Become a member and make your Impact today.

Our fundraising accomplishment comes after two years of giving ( 4) $50,000 grants to the following nonprofits:
2016: Child Development Resources and Center for Child and Family Services
2017: Literacy for Life and Transitions Family Violence Services

Message from a Member
In a recent talk with our members and those interested in joining Impact 100, a member shared her view of being at the 2017 Big Give.

“We are a group of four women making an emotional decision in a short amount of time. There’s lots of negotiation because the nonprofits are all so worthwhile.” – Amanda Graham

What is a Big Give?  First, save-the-date for our 2018 event: September 18 at Hampton Roads Academy Svein J. Lassen Auditorium.

We will present to you our 2018 Impact 100 Grant Finalists. Each finalist has an opportunity to demonstrate their goals for their grant proposal. The Big Give not only provides the opportunity for our members to gain firsthand knowledge of local nonprofits through their messages, we as members are then trusted with the responsibility of deciding the best grant opportunities for our community and directly engaging in that award. One night, one member (or a group of up to four members) cast one vote--that one vote turns into a significant gift for two non-profits in our community.

Granting Grace
Members join grant and financial review committees to analyze all submitted proposals to identify several leading grant applicants. Our members spend time over the summer conducting site visits to learn more about how those organizations plan to use the grant money. The committee then selects our finalists for the Big Give in September.
The applicant’s proposal project or program must benefit the communities of Newport News, Hampton, Poquoson, James City County, Williamsburg, York County, Gloucester, Isle of Wight and Smithfield.

We are seeking to support projects or programs that:
·          Have a long-term positive impact and foster change within the area of application
·          Are programmatic and/or capital in nature
·          Are new programs or expansions or improvements of existing programs that can change
the way an organization or a community operates
·          Can demonstrate specific measurable goals towards creating impact.

Finally, applicants are responsible for selecting from one of the following focus areas:
·          Education
·          Family
·          Arts and Culture
·          Health and Wellness
·          Environment

Beyond the Money
Members are invited to serve as leaders for our committees, work on an event, write for our publications, review grant applications, or participate in grantee volunteer activities. What role interests you?
