Mission Moment: ACI Construction
2016 Grant Recipient Greater Cincinnati
Construction Foundation &
Woodward High School

Woodward Career Technical High School's innovative program to get students out of the classroom and into the real world has earned it recognition as Duke Energy's School of the Week.

Inside the basement of the school is the framework of a house built by students working in the construction program. It will eventually be a two bedroom house on Ryland Avenue. It's the first of two homes students will build.

Student project manager Darius Little says, "I always wanted to build a house, so to be able to actually do it, makes me want to cry sometimes because it really touches me to actually see this house up and framed. It's the best thing and I can't wait to get it on the job site."

Mission Moment: Activities Beyond the Classroom
2015 Grant Recipient Activities Beyond the Classroom &
Hughes High School

Since the opening of The Mack as a multi-sport center in 2016, athletic capacity at Hughes has doubled. Being able to use multiple spaces has enabled teams of different genders to practice at the same time, making it possible for all teams to be done with practice by 7pm.
  • Softball and baseball, with a safe place to hit and practice, have excelled beyond imagination.
  • Baseball fell just shy of their second title in five years this year.
  • Our junior high teams are flourishing and participation rates keep climbing.
  • Special education students are finding refuge and a play area.
  • Engineering students have a place to test rockets, drones, and race vehicles.
  • Hughes Boys Basketball team has been undefeated in their regular season!

Women At The Table: Will You Pull Up a Chair?

Many social change movements like Impact 100 were created when women gathered around a kitchen table  (i.e. the violence against women movement). Those women listened, connected, and took action to create movements that have lasting impact and change. Interested in Impact 100 founder, Wendy Steele's reflection about "joining at the table" to launch this organization?  Click here.

Would you like to pull up a chair to revive, resurge, or reclaim a circle of women?
