On March 3, Don Isaacson, a member of the Valley of the Sun YMCA Board of Directors, was named Advocate of the Year, a nationally recognized honor celebrating exceptional leadership and impact in advancing the Y’s advocacy efforts. The award was announced at National Advocacy Days by YMCA of the USA CEO Suzanne McCormick.
For decades, Don has been a trusted and influential voice for the YMCA in Arizona. In addition, Don has also served as a valued partner to national Government Relations efforts, bringing deep expertise and an unwavering commitment to community wellbeing.
Don, thank you for your continued leadership and service to the Y and the communities we serve.
Leaders from the Women’s Leadership Resource Network at the Valley of the Sun YMCA recently engaged in a meaningful conversation with Marta Huretska of YMCA Ukraine.
Hearing Marta share her experience leading through the realities of war was both humbling and inspiring. Her perspective reinforced the strength and resilience of women who continue to lead, support their families, and Do Good in their communities despite incredibly challenging circumstances.
Moments like this highlight the power of the global YMCA movement and the vital role women play in shaping stronger, more connected communities around the world.
A powerful reminder that leadership and resilience know no borders.
This morning, we celebrated a meaningful milestone at our Legacy Foundation Chris-Town YMCA with a ribbon cutting to unveil our newly refreshed basketball gym. This transformation, made possible through the generous support of The Atlanta Tipoff Club, includes new paint, upgraded scoreboards, LED lighting, and wall mats, creating a space where youth can grow, compete, and thrive.
This investment is more than a facility upgrade. It is an example of how we are leading change by creating environments that foster confidence, connection, and opportunity for every young person who walks through our doors.
We are especially grateful to Eric Oberman and The Atlanta Tipoff Club for their partnership and commitment to our mission. A special thank you as well to Jamie Bailey, who shared a powerful and heartfelt story about her experience as a volunteer coach in our Jr. Mercury Legacy League, reminding us of the life changing impact of mentorship and community.
We were also honored to have several of our Metro Board members join us for this celebration, including Jim Pitman, Eric Bailey, Alicia Scott, Joyce Stuart,Amy Diaz, and Kevin Phelps who continue to champion the work of the Y.
Moments like this reflect the collective impact of strong partnerships, dedicated volunteers, and engaged leaders, all working together to strengthen our community and Lead Change for the future.
