Making an Impact: Updates from Our 2024 Grant Awardees

Each year proceeds from events and other initiatives of the Vince Lombardi Cancer Foundation are awarded to programs making a difference in cancer research, treatment, and prevention.

In 2024, $320,000 was awarded to eight programs across the country, thanks to your generous support! Learn more about the progress made so far in 2025 from the mid-year reports submitted by our grant recipients:

• MCW Research: Scientists discovered that boosting—not blocking—specific proteins around cells may slow pancreatic cancer spread and improve survival.

• University of Michigan Study: Through survivor interviews and data analysis, researchers are uncovering the unique challenges younger adults face with colorectal cancer to improve tailored care.

• Children’s of Alabama Research: New compounds show promise in targeting a key gene in high-risk neuroblastoma, potentially improving treatment outcomes.

• MMRF Patient Navigation Center: The PNC supports myeloma patients to better understand their condition and treatment options, increasing their reach by 11% so far in 2025.

• Hopecam: Hopecam supplied technology to connect 788 children with cancer with their classrooms, a record number for the organization.

• LIVESTRONG at the YMCA: So far in 2025, LIVESTRONG helped 31 cancer survivors improve strength, fitness, and quality of life, with measurable gains in health and expanded staff support.

• Team Phoenix at Aurora Healthcare: 50 women, all cancer survivors or patients ranging in age from 32 - 74, trained in the 14-week program culminating in the 2025 TRI-ing for a Cure Triathlon on July 27.

With each event requiring an average of $5,000 in printing needs, this truly is meaningful support that ensures more of the funds raised at each event are used to support cancer research and treatment programs.

In addition to serving on VCLF’s Board of Directors, Marek Group’s CEO Fuzzy Marek co-chairs our annual Food & Wine Experience, dedicating countless hours to planning and promoting the two-day event each November. His leadership, dedication, and personal support are so appreciated – thank you Fuzzy and the team at the Marek Group for all you do, year-round, to make an impact!

Space is still available for restaurants, breweries, wineries, distilleries, or coffee shops to showcase their products by hosting a station at the Tasting Gala on November 7.
