COVID-19 Impact at AFAC
COVID-19 has had a profound impact on our community. Even with the increase in families needing food over the past few months, AFAC has been able to serve all with much-needed groceries - and will continue to do so for any Arlington resident in need. Click here to read more.
Hunger Action Month
Hunger Action Month is a month-long awareness campaign to inspire action against hunger. Throughout the month of September, AFAC will work to educate the community about food insecurity and invite all to join in the task of feeding our neighbors in need. With full plates and full hearts, you can help end hunger. Visit our Hunger Action Month page for details about volunteer activities, food drives, and other initiatives to help AFAC.

Grocery Stores Supporting AFAC

When you check out at one of the four Safeways in Arlington, you can donate to this campaign to help AFAC purchase breakfast cereal for our weekly grocery distribution program.

For the month of September, when you buy a reusable bag from the Giant Food near Bailey's Crossroads (3480 S. Jefferson St in Falls Church), $1 gets donated to AFAC through their Community Bag Program!
Thank You
Special thanks to the Arlington County Police Department for organizing a food drive at 3 Giants in July and collected 6,509 lbs of food in just 2 hours!

How You Can Help AFAC
Thank you so much to everyone who has donated their food, funds, and time to make sure all families in need have gotten their much needed groceries during this difficult time. We wouldn't be able to serve our community without your support.

Here are a couple of ways you can continue to help out families in need:
You can donate canned food (tomato products, vegetables, tuna, and soups) and peanut butter at a local AFAC collection box set up in the community. Please do not donate food that is perishable, opened, expired, or in glass jars.

You can also host a food drive in your own neighborhood. Register your food drive to request an AFAC food drive box if you would like one. There are template food drive flyers available that you can use and distribute digitally to help you get started.
Funds raised will go towards our food budget. This allows AFAC to purchase fresh produce, oatmeal, rice, beans, milk, eggs, frozen protein (chicken, fish, and hot dogs), and other food in bulk prices directly from food vendors at lower rates found at the grocery store.
For anyone in need, we have compiled a list of resources on our website. This includes how to get a referral to AFAC, where to find free meals for kids, safety tips, etc. Please share as needed.
