The impact of a community space for Freedom House Detroit

Impact100 Metro Detroit members connected with Deb Drennan, CEO of Freedom House Detroit, for this month's Coffee and Conversation. Deb shared insight into the journeys of asylum seekers in the United States, as well as the unique work being done by Freedom House Detroit. As one of only a small handful of organizations in the country that provide comprehensive services to individuals and families who would be harmed if they returned to their home country, Freedom House Detroit is vital in helping start asylum seekers on the path to a new and safe life.

In the clip above, Deb shares her vision for the "sacred space" Freedom House will create in their front yard using our $100,000 impact grant. The natural area with room to gather for work and play will provide a safe and welcoming environment for their clients as they heal from the trauma of their past and experience joy in their new life.

Ribbon Cutting Celebration

$100,000 Impact Grant Makes Dream A Reality

Impact100 Metro Detroit board members Amy Bouque, Carla Chennault and Kelly Walsh attended the ribbon cutting ceremony as Lawn Academy CEO, Eric Miller, community leaders, students and supporters gathered to celebrate their newest location, an East Detroit Youth Development Hub, which was purchased with our 2021 grant. We'll have the opportunity to see incredible jewelry (including our own I100 MD pieces created from our Big Give mural) as well as talk with Amy Peterson, CEO & Co-founder.
