Dear Family of St. Francis

Happy New Year as a new church year begins THIS Sunday, the first Sunday of Advent, November 29! We shall be decked out in the blue of Advent HOPE. There will be a small Advent wreath on our portable altar and our readings and music shall surround our hearts with a message of hope in the darkness, isolation, anxiousness, that this pandemic has caused for so many. As of this writing, I hope to see you this Sunday at 10am with reservations (sent to me) in front of the church.  As announced, we shall not have a prerecorded service at 10am - only the livestreamed one…and we shall see how it goes! So tune in online or in-person at 10am. Please be patient with us - technology does not always play nice, but we are doing our very best.

Tomorrow, Thanksgiving Day, I pray that an awareness of the love of God blesses your hearts and minds. You might not be with the many that you usually celebrate Thanksgiving with, but know that you are not alone in God’s presence and love for you. May you be filled with a grace of knowing that love is real no matter how near or far.  Thank you for how you have blessed my life.

Speaking of Thanksgiving, tomorrow morning please tune in to our St Francis Facebook page at 8:30 am for a Thanksgiving Service which I will lead from my office at home. Every Tuesday and Thursday morning I lead Morning Prayer at 8:30 and tomorrow’s will be special.

On Sunday the 29th, Communion-only is available at 11:15. Please text - 310-995-6519 - or email me to register for all services and events. We need your reservations for contact tracing if needed.

A blessed Thanksgiving with love and care for each of you,

Thanksgiving - November 26th
8:30 am - Paula+ will offer a Thanksgiving Service as part of her usual Morning Prayer.
This Sunday, November 29th, First Sunday in Advent

  • 11:00 am - wreath-making kits. Our Fellowship and Hospitality committee have prepared wreath-making kits for you to pick up and take home or to assemble at church, socially distanced and masked of course. Come, celebrate and enjoy!!!

Thank you for your continuing love and support of St Francis.
I look forward to seeing you !!
Please remember - on campus, you must wear a face mask covering your mouth and nose, and keep 6 (yes SIX!) feet distance from people not in your household, at all times. If you have a cough or do not feel well then take care of yourself and stay at home. Also - if you have traveled out of State, please do not come onto campus for 14 days after your return.
At 6' your outstretched arms should have several inches of space between fingertips.
Dear Families of St Francis!
Our Advent Season Begins

And remember to pick up your Advent Wreath-making kit on Saturday!
Simplify Your Giving!
Use automatic bill pay to overcome the challenge of getting your weekly pledge to St. Francis. Most financial institutions will easily let you set up automatic payments through online banking. You choose the payment frequency you want.

For example, set up one monthly payment at a date in the month that works best for you. The Diocese also offers auto-pay but these options charge a servicing fee, so auto-pay through your bank works best.

Every financial institution is different, so look for Bill Pay or similar when you’ve logged in to online banking. Then add St. Francis as a new payee. You don’t need the church bank details - only the address and phone number: St. Francis Episcopal Church, 2200 Via Rosa, Palos Verdes Estates, CA 90274. 310 375 4617. And thank you!!
Be together - 5 days a week, as well as Sundays.
Morning prayer twice-weekly, led by Paula+, and Compline three times per week, led by Jude+ and a team of lay leaders. Each service includes the traditional service, plus words from the leader, and explanations of the readings. They are prayerful and quiet, a far cry from the turmoil of the world, and medicine to help us heal and be comforted and inspired.
