UNMC Commencement COVID-19 Precautions
Dear College of Dentistry Graduates,

Congratulations on your accomplishments and best wishes to you and your loved ones for a joyous and well-deserved, but safe, celebration of those accomplishments! As we celebrate with families and friends, we remain mindful of the COVID-19 virus and protection of our communities.
To that end, we intend to conduct COVID-19 screening at the entrance to commencement ceremonies.

We ask that you help us take proactive steps to ensure a rapid and hassle-free screening process.

We also ask that you assist your loved ones (parents, grandparents, spouses, significant others, and anyone else planning to attend the ceremony) in doing the same. By doing so, you can obtain, for them, quicker entry into the ceremony.
How to Prepare for Screening at the Entrance

Preferred Option - Use the 1Check or CheckCOVID app

  • Download the 1Check UNMC app (for students, staff, and faculty) or the CheckCOVID app (for guests).

  • Perform a screening on the app on the day of commencement and be able to show your green “low” status with date/time stamp.

  • Alternatively, access the web-based version of the app, perform the screen, print the results, and bring those printed results to the Commencement venue.
How to download the app, or access the web-based app:
1Check UNMC app (for students, staff, and faculty)

You may download the 1Check app on Apple or Android devices, or access on the web.
CheckCOVID app (for guests)

Guests and visitors may download the CheckCOVID app on Apple or Android devices, or access it on the web.
Other Option - Verbal Screening at Commencement

Those who do not utilize the above option will be subject to verbal screening at the commencement venue, potentially delaying entrance into the ceremony. The venue entrance is not the time or place for new users to familiarize themselves with the app.

Individuals subject to verbal screening will need to answer the following questions:

  • Do you have a fever or chills?
  • Do you have a new or worsening cough?
  • Are you experiencing new or worsening shortness of breath?
  • Have you recently lost your sense of taste or smell?
  • Are you aware of having contact with a COVID-positive individual in the past 14 days?
Please remind your guests to arrive early so they have enough time to complete their screenings and find their seats before the ceremony starts.
Thank you for your understanding and your cooperation!

Questions concerning this request should be sent to the Office of Health Security at [email protected].
