Guidelines for outdoor activities, including recess and PE at LLESD

For the safety of our students and our staff, we will follow these guidelines for PE and other outdoor activities:

  • No outdoor activities, distance running, or strenuous conditioning/practice if the temperature or heat index is 95 or higher
  • Our team will monitor indoor gym areas to make sure they don’t become as hot as the outside temperature. If heat is excessive, the activity should be canceled
  • Ensure frequent hydration whenever needed
  • When outdoors in the heat, frequent shade breaks will be taken
  • If the temperature reaches 95 degrees, all outdoor PE activities will  be moved indoors. If we are unable to move an activity inside, the activity will be rescheduled or canceled.
  • It is safe to resume outdoor play only when the temperature drops to 94 degrees or less.

During the extreme heat forecasted in our area in the coming week, we are preparing for the possibility that rolling blackouts could occur during school hours.

Our leadership team will closely monitor the situation. It is our intent to try to continue with normal operations and regular school hours whenever possible. In the event of a prolonged outage, we will send alerts and instructions out to all families via SchoolMessenger.

Stay safe and stay cool and hydrated.
