Location: Hyatt Regency New Orleans, Louisiana, USA
The Society previously had a contract to hold its 2021 Annual Meeting in San Diego, but that contract included hotel room and food and beverage minimums that we were unlikely to meet with a reduced in-person attendance, given the ongoing health and travel concerns related to COVID-19. Keeping that contract would have resulted in a significant financial loss to the Society. In the interest of financial stewardship, when we were given the opportunity to be released from that contract with no financial penalties, we took it. We have spent the last several months searching for the right location and the right hotel to support a smaller, hybrid conference, where some of our attendees attend and present in-person, and some of our attendees tune in and participate online. We are very pleased to announce that we will be returning to the popular Hyatt Regency New Orleans for the in-person component of this year's conference.
Dates: November 4-7, 2021
We recognize that a change in conference dates is a big deal. Unfortunately, we were unable to find a suitable hotel for our conference that had availability during our previous conference dates. Consequently, we made the difficult decision to move our conference to November 4-7, 2021. We hope you will be able to join us, in-person or online. Rest assured you will have many opportunities to present and connect with other attendees, no matter how you choose to participate. Continued improvements in online meeting technology mean that this year's online meeting experience will be far more robust than last year.
Presenting Live in New Orleans vs. Presenting Online
Whether you are presenting a talk or a poster, you will have the option to present in-person in New Orleans, or prerecord your presentation and participate online (including a live Q&A that will incorporate both online participants and those on-site in New Orleans). More information about in-person vs. remote presentations will be communicated to presenters in the coming weeks.
Thank you for your understanding of the changes the Society needed to make to support its 2021 Annual Meeting. We are incredibly excited to get to see you in November, either online or in-person.
