Insurance Insights & Interesting News

The dropping temps make it obvious that the seasons are changing, perhaps quicker than we would like. The cooler weather brings football, hockey, and other fun.

This month, we're sharing a reminder that minimum liability limits likely do not provide enough protection. A quick, important read to make sure you're doing all you can to protect yourself and your family.

We're also highlighting a local nonprofit theater that provides some wonderful entertainment and wishing my mom, Michelle, a happy birthday.

Sincerely,

Jeremy Loretz and the Loretz-Johnson Team

Happy

Birthday!

Michelle celebrated a milestone birthday this month! We enjoyed lunch with her at the office.

Are Your Auto Liability Limits High Enough?

When it comes to auto insurance, it’s easy to assume that carrying the state-required minimum limits is enough. However, in Minnesota, the minimum required property damage liability limit is just $10,000. That limit that has remained unchanged since Minnesota’s No-Fault Insurance Act was enacted over 50 years ago. As you can imagine, $10,000 does not go far when another driver damages a vehicle, especially when rental car expenses are added to the cost of repairs.

Unfortunately, we recently had two of our clients involved in accidents where the at-fault driver was insured through an online company with liability limits at or near the minimum requirement. With the current cost of vehicles and repairs, the minimum is not enough, which is why we don’t offer these limits in our agency.

Why does this matter to you?

You can’t control how much insurance another driver carries, but you can work with your agent to make sure your own policy provides the protection you need. Appropriate liability limits, uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage, and collision coverage can all play an important role.

One of the advantages of working with an independent agency like Loretz-Johnson is having an insurance professional who can look beyond simply finding the lowest premium.

We can help you:

  • Review your current liability limits
  • Identify potential gaps in coverage created by carrying minimum limits
  • Discuss uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage
  • Review collision and comprehensive coverage
  • Consider your vehicles, assets, and overall risk
  • Compare coverage options from multiple insurance companies

Insurance isn’t just about meeting the minimum legal requirement. It's about making sure you and your family are properly protected if the unexpected does occur.

If you haven’t reviewed your auto insurance limits recently, this is a good time to take a look. A few minutes spent reviewing your coverage now could make a significant difference if you’re involved in an accident with a driver who isn’t properly insured.

Local Theater Scene

Located in the heart of historic downtown Anoka, Lyric Arts is the only full-time, year-round theater in the northern suburbs of Minneapolis, providing access to the performing arts for hundreds of artists and tens of thousands of audience members each year.

Lyric Arts presents nine to ten productions per season, including a unique mix of comedies, dramas, classics, musicals, and plays for young audiences.

OCT 16–NOV 1 Twelve Angry Men takes center stage.

On a sweltering summer day, twelve jurors enter a deliberation room believing their decision will be simple, but one dissenting voice changes everything. As tensions rise and personal biases come to light, Twelve Angry Men unfolds into a gripping examination of justice, prejudice, and the weight of reasonable doubt.

Widely regarded as a landmark American drama, this riveting play remains as timely as ever, challenging audiences to consider what it means to stand alone in pursuit of truth.

The company also presents theater arts workshops and educational outreach programs.

Lyric Arts is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation whose mission is to enrich lives by creating meaningful performing arts experiences that ignite the imagination, inspire the spirit, and engage the community.
