Dear students, faculty and staff,
CIM’s priorities throughout the pandemic have been to always place the health and safety of our community first, to deliver meaningful musical training and experiences, and to do everything we can to keep the music playing.
The leadership team is constantly evaluating new information and monitoring conditions in the greater Cleveland area. This week, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) updated their guidelines to expand the definition of close contact and Cuyahoga County moved to Level 3 with a high risk of moving to Level 4 in the Public Health Advisory System, so we had to re-evaluate our activities and protocols.
With just four weeks of on-campus instruction left, and important chamber music performances and orchestra mock auditions still to come, CIM’s leadership team has decided to make an adjustment to the plans for CIM Orchestra for the rest of this semester. The rehearsals and recordings scheduled for CIM Orchestra ensembles 10, 11 and 12 are being postponed until spring semester. These ensembles are the largest gatherings currently being held on our campus, and turning our focus to the successful completion of lessons, recitals and chamber music performances is the right decision to ensure that all students have the opportunity to complete their requirements this fall.
CIM Orchestra leadership will refine and update protocols for rehearsals in the spring semester and, as always, will take into account all available information to ensure a safe and positive learning environment for all orchestra members. Your capacity for excellent music-making coupled with incredible flexibility during the fall semester is a remarkable achievement and will be the foundation for what we can accomplish in CIM Orchestra going forward.
The recording for Ensemble 9 will occur as scheduled today and information regarding mock auditions for woodwinds, brass, percussion and harp will be emailed next week. As always, please reach out to me with any questions at madeline.lucas@cim.edu.
