Dear ChiArts and Foundation Community,

For more than two decades, the philanthropic spirit of ChiArts has been defined by the belief that every young creative in Chicago deserves access to a world-class arts education, regardless of background or financial means. Today, we are writing to share an important update regarding the next chapter of ChiArts and the ChiArts Foundation.

As Chicago Public Schools (CPS) prepares to transition The Chicago High School for the Arts (ChiArts) to a district-managed model effective July 1, 2026, the ChiArts Foundation will sunset operations on June 30, 2026. While this marks the conclusion of the Foundation’s formal role, it also represents a remarkable legacy of achievement. The district’s decision to formally integrate ChiArts as a Fine and Performing Arts high school reflects the strength and success of the ChiArts model you helped build and sustain.

As the School transitions into a new district-managed structure, the framework for philanthropy is also evolving. Chicago Public Schools intends to leverage the Children First Fund (CFF), the existing philanthropic partner for CPS, to support ChiArts moving forward.

It is impossible to overstate the importance of philanthropy in the ChiArts story. ChiArts exists because a community of donors, artists, and civic leaders believe Chicago should have a public arts high school grounded in both artistic excellence and academic rigor.

Together, we have achieved extraordinary things:

Proving the Model: More than $40 million was raised over the years to support the pre-professional arts conservatory model.

Ensuring Access: Philanthropy made rigorous arts training accessible regardless of prior access or financial means.

Recruiting Novices: This support allowed us to recruit novice students, with over 65% of each freshman class entering with little to no prior training.

Scholar-Artist Success: ChiArts graduates consistently outperform citywide benchmarks and have gone on to careers across the creative industries and beyond.

Between now and June 30, our work is not yet finished. The Foundation remains focused on raising the critical funds needed to meet our 25/26 fundraising goal for ChiArts’ five arts conservatories. This support is essential to ensuring scholar-artists finish this school year with the full depth of experience they deserve.

We will continue sharing updates to ensure a thoughtful and strong close to this chapter. We invite you to read our press release, and next week we will share a website transition hub for our community to stay connected.

We are incredibly proud of what this community has built together and remain steadfast champions of ChiArts students and the school’s continued success as part of Chicago Public Schools.

With deepest gratitude,
