Coming up in 2026, delegates to convention that are elected during church annual meetings in January, will have added responsibilities and commitments to attend specific events, especially during the first half of the year. These added events are related to the search and election for the next bishop of the Diocese. Delegate attendance, voice, and votes are crucial, so please take note of the following when electing your delegates (and alternates):
APRIL 2026 – KE ALOHA KĀKOU, Candidate Meet-and-Greets
All elected delegates should attend one of the following meet-and-greet events. Everyone in the Diocese is encouraged to attend and meet the candidates and their spouses. For those who cannot make it in person, there will also be an option to join "virtually" via Zoom:
-
Thursday, April 23 – Kauaʻi – All Saints’ Episcopal Church / via Zoom
-
Friday, April 24 – Maui / Molokaʻi – The Parish of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church / via Zoom
-
Saturday, April 25 – Oʻahu / Guam – St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church; The Cathedral of St. Andrew / via Zoom
-
Sunday, April 26 – Hawaiʻi Island – St James’ Episcopal Church / via Zoom
MEETINGS OF CONVENTION – There will be two meetings of Convention in 2026 that will require travel to O'ahu as follows:
-
Saturday, May 16, 2026 – Special Meeting of Convention* of the Diocese of Hawaiʻi, with the single purpose of electing the sixth Bishop of the Diocese, ‘Iolani School, O'ahu
-
Saturday, October 17, 2026 – The 58th Annual Meeting of Convention, 'Iolani School, O'ahu – (Education Day, Opening Eucharist, and Ke Ha’alele Ana Farewell Event for Bishop Bob will be held on Friday, October 16, but attendance is not mandatory.)
*Neighbor Island Special Note: It is recognized that same day roundtrip travel creates a hardship on remote area clergy and delegates, so a possible solution for an overnight stay is underway. While lodging is not covered by the Diocese for the Annual Meeting of Convention, delegate voting count is considered paramount for this Special Meeting of Convention to elect the Sixth Bishop of the Diocese of Hawaiʻi. Therefore, the Transitions Committee is currently looking into easing this burden for the May gathering. Some restrictions may apply. Final details will be forthcoming.
SEARCH UPDATE – The application window has closed and the Search Committee is reviewing the applications. Due to the strict requirements of confidentiality, committee members cannot reveal any information at all, including the number of applications received. Please continue to pray for the discernment process. The slate of three candidates will be announced on March 16, and the nomination by petition period will be open from March 16 to March 23.
